im sure some here remember when i used to be doing them i believe i mentioned them , i was way more active in it before i came here on a different site that no longer exists - heck , i can go back at least two deep that no longer exist , starting on ians site in the early 20s , but that aside , we had it good back then , you had to work at it but you could find what you needed and get them done
im seeing some folks coming with theirs , a lot harder now as the access is not as great today as when we did them , as hard as it was for us its harder now , im out of th project arena now , ive sold off all of my collections for the most part and all my parts are gone now , i feel a tad bit bad for those starting today ,
i came back to add that a lot of mine came together because of friends i made on these sites - i want to thank them all but the last 20 years some are gone , some are not in the same places i am , but i thank them ,

I know what you mean Mike. Even in the relatively short time I’ve been tinkering with No. 4 rifles, the source of parts has dwindled. Can’t find any new barrels either (Criterion or Lothar Walther), and I’ve never come across a NOS barrel. I’m glad I bought a few more spares when I did. I still have one NOS Mk 2 beech wood set, just used the walnut Long Branch NOS fore-end set on the T that Brian fitted and finished for me.
I was on a Lee Enfield site before this one for a few years, must have been in the late 1990’s. I don’t remember what the name of it was, but I was not a frequent poster then.

Same in Canada. I started collecting milsurps for real in the 1980's and fortunately we had Tom Bongalis who ran Castle Armoury in North Vancouver, B.C. who had every part imaginable for Lee Enfields and many other milsurps. Tom's daughter Gail took over the business after he passed away and ran it for years but unfortunately the business is now closed. Collectors getting started today would sh!t their pants if they heard what we were paying for stuff 45 years ago.
Here's what I paid for some:
SVT 40 $115 1911 $69 Johnson 1941 $375 H&R U.S. Rifle M14 $550 Lunjgman AG 42 B $150 Ishapore 1A1 $169 NOS No.4 Mk2 $129 MG 08/15 mit Schlitten 4 hours electrical labour
Just a few of rifles and handguns I bought.

I’ve got Dad’s notebook which contains prices and dates he bought and sold rifles. Here are a few:
No. 4 (T) $37.45, August 1963 (the rifle I now have) No. 5 $26.64, May 1963 No. 4 (T) $60.00, Sep 1965 No. 4 Mk 2 $20.00, Sep 1965 (unissued) No. 4 (T) $75.00, June 1968 (unissued, CES), he bought two of these for that price.
In those days, he could rebarrel a rifle for $20.00 (price of a new barrel and installation).

I still have 2 No.4 projects and 1 No.1/MK3*** to complete. I have all the mechanical parts for them, heck they are complete except for the fore ends which I have to find. I could buy reproductions but....I prefer original wood parts. One rifle project is a Maltby No.4/MK1 and the other a 1945 Long Branch No.4/MK1* with new barrel that was installed many moons ago. The No.1/MK3 is a Lithgow with matching #'s.I did find a DP rifle and snatched the wood off of that but the wood turned out to be real junk, oil perished dirty wood with many cracks. The search will continue however, as here in Alberta the firearm culture is still alive and well and I am making new contacts at gun shows since having moved from British Columbia to Alberta.

You can pack the oily wood in kitty litter in a black plastic trash bag.
Leave it out in the back window of your car to bake.
The kitty litter will absorb the oil.

Drifted into ARs for CMP matches just put a Geissele Target Trigger in one. I built a 1903a3 from a stripper receiver and restored a number of No 4s

I have a Japanese Type 99, Series 25 that belonged to my Uncle that has a cut down stock done by my cousin, the butt head.
My butt head cousin also totaled his Father's 1966 Ford pick up driving home from a bar by hitting dumpster in the back parking lot.

I put a Geissele trigger in my AR SR, fully adjustable, really like it. I’ve also got their SR scope mount, it is about the lowest rise you can get. I wouldn’t be able to shoot an AR without it.

over the years i built 10 ARs including my retro 1968 M16A1 [its on a DPMS lower that is semi auto only] i converted a shot out M1903 springfield to a 22cal , by fabing the 16" 22 insert from an old 22 single shot barrel , reamed the chamber to headspace to a springfield M2 bolt that was for the springfieldM1922 and it was a 22 cal ,
i did a number of repairs and replacements on the 20 odd M1917s i owned as well as repairing a couple older trapdoors and a couple old mosberg 22s
all of my enfeilds were bought as collectible except the one my dad bought out of a barrel at sears back in 1959-60 , it and the ammo was cheap , but i cleaned the vrerdigis off the ammo so we could shoot it , a lot of click...bangs in that can , la ter we found better ammo

I swear by Geiselle now and have them in 5 of my AR's. I especially enjoy the SSA-E (Super Semi Auto Enhanced) in my target AR's for it's ability to stop you from anticipating the let-off. Geiselle's 3 Gun trigger the SD-3G (Super Dynamic 3 Gun) was my go to trigger when I was fit enough to run-and-gun. I loved its short reset when double tapping IPSC targets. I have a video of myself somewhere doing a mag dump with the rifle after installing the SD-3G trigger, you'd think I was firing full auto.

My youngest son has a French M1874 carbine missing a bolt and rear sight.
The joys of yard sales.
God know what else he has stashed in his basement apartment, my basement.
