I've noticed some folks talk about "heart shots" While I agree that it's a great shot to make, & offers a sure/quick kill - I wonder if they are aware that their wasting a very tasty part of the deer ?
If anyone is interested, I'd be glad to share some of my recipes with you. Once I prepared some heart for the guys in my old hunt club, they voted UNANIMOUSLEY(?) to assess a fine of $4.00 on anyone with a heart shot.(We had all kinds of fines: $1.00 per shot, after the first one(you should only need ONE,right?) Falling asleep(& getting caught) on watch-$5.00 etc. All that $ was paid back to he who shoots first deer of the day.(Theres a $31.00 carry over from last November.) In my line of work these days a heart shot is a big NO-NO !!!!!! On
Roos we have to take a neck shot (which sounds hard when you first get
told this but becomes second nature ) On a Kangaroo if you get a direct
Brain shot the animal does a backward summersalt (very impressive to
anyone who has never seen this happen before ) But it breaks the Roos
tail,& riuns the meat in the Rump through bruising ! There by down
grading the meat from human consumption to Pet meat ! Repeated offenses
are punishable by loss of licence ! Camels I have always gone for the
neck shot as once startled & running the neck makes a large target

Hey dave now you might call me "UN-AUSTRALIAN" to say this but i tried roo meat couple of years back and Geez i nearly puked me guts up. maybe the way its cooked too ,cos its gotta be rare, like bleeding and still hoppin around on ya plate otherwise its like eatin beef jerkey! |

Makes 2 of us Mate I was brought up on the stuff ! To get the Kids to eat Broccili in this house we threatern them with Roo meat ! They then ask for more Broccili! Roo meat is fit for Dogs & cats only in my opinon! If people saw some of the things we see when we've shot em they would agree with us ! Dave |
