I'm just wondering if you have seen the movie Quigley Down Under. If you have I would like to know if you consider it an accurate depiction of Australia.

Yes mate I've seen the movie several times & whilst it was a
fairly accurate portrail of Australia at that period there are several
small flaws the first being that The Troopers only ever worked in
groups or patrols of three or four at the most with a compliment
of Aboriganal trackers & there would never have been that many
Aboriganals in one place at one time !
AS late as the 1930s there were still
spearings by Natives in Australia (mainly in the north of the country !
Yes the stations are a big as the one portraided in the Film! VRD in th
northern Territory is the size of Belgium
,Commonwealth hills in SA until it was sub divided was the
largest sheep station in the southern hemsphere ,as it was when
they sud divided the station the out or sub stations became
stations in their right !!!!!!! a Station of 150sq miles is
classed as a small station ! We have a property of 20,000 acres &
this is considered as a large farm!
Until recently supplies to
these stations were brought in every 12mths ie several ton of flour !
Meat was killed once a week & I belive still is. The big problem
used to be the lack of refidgeion Meat was salted ! Dung beetles that
were brought into the country to remove dung & get rid of
Flies prefered fresh Beef to dung ! So station cooks (I use
the word cook loosely ) Would soak the meat in water to drown the
beetles & a careing Cook would change the water for each piece of
meat ! Shame there were'nt to many careing cooks ! Also I have often
wondered the nutricional value of flour that has been through thr
digestive system of a Million weevels!
