Greetings!
Just joined forum today. Very glad to find a forum where one can discuss all things Enfield. Having a difficult time locating a decent No. 4 Mk1 or 2.
I'm looking for a serious shooter grade rather than a collector. Gunshops in my area (south Alabama) rarely run across any.  I find quite a few listed on  AuctionArms and GunBroker but am hesitant in buying anything I cannot inspect first.  Would appreciate any help and suggestions.

Greetings Horseman ! Welcome to the Mad house ! Once you get used to our ,Insanity  you'll find it's a great community for gleaning information ! Don't be alarmed if you posts go of at a tangent ! It just means that Matron has not been round with the Medication cart !

Like you I'm very hesitant on buying Firearms without seeing them in the Flesh as it were ! I'm sure though that our US members will be able to point you in the right direction ! Personally I would never buy a Rifle from somebody like me (Ok, so I've sold a few questionable Unfolds to the unsuspecting over the years Clap)

All but one of Mine have been bought sight unseen, except for one.
I usually go through Century arms they have a grading chart that pretty good. I use Herb at Century and He usually tells me what kind of condition the Rifles are in when I call.
As for collector grade you will pay out the Nose for that grade any how. Shooter grade well I suppose most of mine are in better shape than that and all but 1 like I said were sight unseen. now the No#4 MK 2 Pakistani that I got is in the Best condition of all as for the metal work. But the wood is not as high grade as the Aussie's and the Brit wood. but you get a newer made Rifle and the same look as all the original Enfields.
The Ishy's are all right also, I have 3 , Ishy's in .303 and 2 in .308 the .303's are in the finest shap of all my Ishy Enfields.
Hoadie you will be able to see one of the Ishy's that I sold to Cooki Monster at the M&G, so you will be able to give a more detailed report on it after. since you have more experiance with the Enfield than I or any of the U.S. Members. Not put any one down in the U.S. Its just that I'm going on the Basis of Who would possibly know them from Millitary use...
Now if we just had Tikirockor at the M&G we could pick his Brain and get a treasure trove of info also.. He is the Lucky one -living right there and bumping elbows with the craftsmen that produced the Lithy's....

I would not buy unseen either if you want a shooter.
Unless it is something rare you need to buy from a reputable source and return it if it is no good. Check the return policy first.  There are many Enfields with bores that have been let go rusty with corrosive ammo. Once that happens, the barrel is stuffed. No matter how much you scour the rust out it is pitted and will pick up fouling.
Personally, I will not buy a secondhand firearm that I can not shoot first unless it is from a trusted source.
Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.
