I was tinkering round the Place today & the Cook informed me that there was a mob of Goats enjoying the Feed that we're putting out for our sheep. I laughed & told her they were probably sheep but right up on the tree line ! She insisted I come out & have a look & on doing so I realised ,they were indeed  Stinking Thieving Goats! It was a Job for the #4 & 180gn PMC !!!!!! in a Half hour from the first couple of shots, ending with them taking off through a steep gourge ,I accounted for 9 of the hay stealing Bastards ! Plus one fox who decided to try & get out of Dodge real fast ,but made the mistake of stopping to look over his shoulder!!!!!!!! Thing was this was in a Paddock not more than 300mtrs from our house ! & then up through scrub & over into the back blocks of our place!

There is nothing like a bit of goat bashing eh dave. I still have not used my 303 on the goats, I am always reaching for my 243 with 75 grain sierra hollow points Thumbs%20Up

I will take the lithgow and a few chargers worth of 150 grain taipans with me next time I go goat bashing. It will be interesting to see how I go with iron sights on the old girl.

PETA ! Aren't trying to earn a living through out a drought ! Then again how much water do you need to grow Lentals?????? I used the .303 due to sheer Magazine capacity HM, Normally it's the Hornet ,Swift or .243 or even the .22!    I brought home one half grown Nanny as a eater ,the rest are just fertilizer !

You don't have to justify using a 303 to me mate, some blokes I go shooting with tag the mongrel things across valleys out near Bathurst with a 338 lapua mag or 308 heavy barrel at ranges of up to 1000m!

I just want to use the 303 because I can!

Damn I have a heap of fun with those blokes as well.

I actually want to try some whale meat, I think it will go good and I dont have a problem if the Japs, Norwegians or Icelandics want to knock a few whales for a feed as long as it is sustainable. That and I am pro whaling to spite the anti's.

And goats are noting more than feral pests tony, which must be exterminated in whatever method that works, the things are like flys. You actually can't shoot goats on a lot of properties now because the cockies are rounding the things up and live exporting them to the middle east, they are absolutely mad for the things over there.

WHALE MEAT???? YOU BLOODY HEATHEN !!! THE MINKE WHALES ARE SO FEW IN NUMBERS NOW THEY AREN'T SUSTAINABLE. THATS WHY THERE WAS A MORITORIUM ON WHALING THAT THE ICELANDICS NOW CHOOSE TO IGNORE.  AS FOR THE GOATS AT LEAST THEY ARE USED FOR FOOD NOT JUST BUTCHERED AND LEFT IN THE SUN TO ROT!!!!

MATE !!!!!! I SAID GOATS NOT BLOODY WHALES ! I reserve the right to destroy any Feral that wanders on to our land ! Normally my Brother catches goats as they are worth more than sheep at the moment but there is a problem with the Abattoirs & their not accepting any goats at the moment, due to several cases of Malta disease.

Personally on the issue of Whaling I'm dead against  it!  It serves no real commercial purpose any more I have no quarms  with  the small villages in places like Norway ect that rely on whale meat as a main stay of Food or the  Inuits ,who hunt for food  things like Seals ,Whales ect ! But as for the JAPs ? No their just plundering for the sake of profit !

Never a truer word spoken ! Salinity is a Major problem over here. Due to the fact of excessive clearing of Trees ,as well as a major erosion problem ! There are major Tree planting schemes,in place . The problem as I see it is policing the clearing of Rain forests in 3rd world countries that are cash hungry !

Saving the rain forrest includes cutting back on fuel consumption. So you lot with gas guzzlers should buy smaller cars !!!!!!  Your fuel bills would be cheaper too. Plant trees reduce methane and co2 output you don't own the world its on loan from your kids!!

Tony agreed when I was in Europe I have seen how they use public transportation, bicycles, and smaller cars. Also each community is set up with everything yu need you could almost walk to get what ever you need. With the rasing fuel prices here in the USA it is coming here too

The whale meat I had decades ago in Japan tasted a lot like salty Pork.
I had a simple rule while in Japan, I would eat anything that was cooked, and almost nothing raw.

The Japs are GREAT host, which is handy as your per-diem doesn't go very far there.

They do like to eat (and DRINK ) well, I usually did not ask what was on the plate for fear of what it might turn out to be, but the whale bacon was too tasty not to find out what it was.

Too bad I will probably never get another bite, I think it's something like $600 a pound now, and business no longer takes me to Japan!

I dunno about those "smaller cars" you talk about Tony.I got a '96 Crown Victoria(which I do love dearly-its what a car SHOULD be!) Although it has an 8 cyl engine...it only gets 9 M.P.G. less than a Suzuki Swift of the same vintage(on the highway). Now I ask you(or anyone) for 9 MPG, what would you rather ride in? PLUS-when was the last time ANYONE saw a '96 Suzuki Swift on the road??. Think I'll keep the Crown

Some of us have our guns so that no one can force us to give up our way of life, and "bad habit's".

Sounds seductively reasonable, until you realize that some one else is setting the terms of your life!
Eco-nut Greenies or Bin Laden, both want to control you/us according to what THEY see as the "TRUTH", and I will give both the same answer.

I live in a very rural area of the U.S. for a reason.
It will be significantly more difficult for the PC goons to implement their socialist crap here.
Most of our roads are unpaved, 4wd is a necessity in winter, and we are too scattered and well armed to conveniently round up and "re-educate".

Energy shortages are 95% political, there are more ways to harvest energy than most of us have ever heard about.

"Global Warming" is a natural process, it's been going on for millennia, and is beyond mankind's ability to regulate.
Until you have the ability to regulate the Sun, halt volcanic activity, control ocean temperatures, etc., controlling "global warming" and "Carbon Credits" will remain among the great scam$ of this century.

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."

Your right! There is ALOT of ways to realize abundant "green" energy. The lobbyists(oil in particular) are there to ensure that they dont hit the mainstream market!!
Some of you got the e-clip about the cancer reasearcher that accidentally set ordinary SEAWATER alight..& achieving a 1,500 deg CELCIUS burn.Seawater is the most abundant renewable resource there is.Can you imagine what that wud to to the oil capitalists??

I am with Richard, "global warming" rates up even higher than Y2K in my book!

"Earth Hour" started here in Sydney last year... mainly because a paper wanted to sell more copies so they went on a big crusade to save the world from global warming, by getting people to turn their lights off for an hour one night a year Confused This year it spread to a lot of other cities full of bleeding hearts.

There id definatly an alternative to coal fired power generation, and thats Nuclear power. We have a heap of uranium here (dave even works at a uranium mine) but we are just digging it up and sending it to Europe, the US and alarmingly China.

There is only one Nuclear Reactor in Australia and that is only for research and for manufacturing medical products. As the Labour government was just elected  they went with what the masses though was a good thing and ruled out Nuclear power.. so we are three years further away from Nuclear power, and other energy sources.

Nuclear power is the perfect base load power source at the moment, until we can research and develop other better methods of electricity generation. As it is at the moment "green energy" can not handle our base load requirements.

/rant off

Nuclear power is fine!! Now who's going to get rid of the crap they produce when its finished? YOUR GRAND KIDS??? ASSUMING YOU AREN'T STERILE DUE TO EXCESS RADIATION IN THE ATMOSPHERE! AREAS OF THE UK ARE STILL SUFFERING DUE TO CHERNOBYL FALL OUT DROPPING ON US. Global warming has been on the up for may years, ever since the industrial revolution. If you look at early photos of the forests in Scandinavia you'll see trees dying!! THAT WAS CAUSED BY SURPHUR PRODUCED IN THE UK DURING THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.  The suphur dissolved in the atmosphere making the rain acid, so eventually the trees got hosed down with dilute Sulphuric acid. What happens when plants die?? The CO2 levels go up because the plants absorb CO2 and produce O2.  Hoadie your 8 cylinder engine gives you 9 mpg, my small 4x4 gives me 30 mpg and apart from towing huge weights it can do anything the big 4x4s can do. The Land Rover Discovery is even more econonomical it will give me in excess of 30mpg tows large loads and uses diesel. We live in a rural area (ok not as rural as some areas of the usa) the roads are good for most of the time and yes we have weapons here. BUT you really think we'd get away with starting a civil war??? I THINK NOT MY FRIEND.! Governments have total control over the armed forces ( or so they like us to believe). Now you recon you can take out an APC with an enfield??? I think not !!! You have automatic weapons the rest of the world ie UK Australia Canada doesn't have access to them. So when your government clamps down on automatics reducing you to bolt action or straight pull what you going to do then?? Throw rocks??? Some of the lads on here are combat veterans and I'm sure they'd agree with me war either civil or global isn't fun its dirty scary and stressful. Those who take part and come home don't and can't forget what happened no matter how hard they try! So forget armed conflict as an option!

Tony! You knob!! I didnt say the Crown Vic gets 9 mpg...I said it gets 9 LESS than a Suzuki Swift of the same Vintage!! It ranks up there around 26-27 mpg.(The newer ones are better than that). If I recall-I think the Swift only had 3 cylinders.Dont matter-cause those little sewing machines dont last anyway..I havent seen a Swift in YEARS!! They stopped selling Crown Vics in Canada(even tho this is where they're made)we're limited to the Mercury Gran Marquis(same car-more toys) Wish I could get another Crown Victoria..they aint gonna make 'em much longer @ all.

Outside a reactor I guess. However in a breeder reactor there is a process that renders the waste harmless it just take a few dollars to do plus the waste containment companies would be out of work and they donate millions to the cause so we could not have that would we???

You're kidding ,right?? Goats are a feral species in Oz I believe. Just like the Eastern Cottontail rabbit here on Vancouver Island ,British Columbia.
They can be shot all year round, no licence , no bag limit. No limit on caliber. They are a pest and destroy natural habitat for indigenous species, the jackrabbit has nearly been chased completely out of its own environment because of introduced species.
I blast every one of the furry little vermin that happens to stand too long in front of my No5Mk1. Move along to a PETA site if you don't like it here.

Yep! I did kill Her White Persian cat and I also killed this grey one She had a few years before.

Ya see I like the Featherd Fowl, I have been raising some type of chicken ore Game bird or Tropicle parrot since I was old eneough to build my own cages...
And I like the Wild Fowl allso.. I have Bird Houses all around the place.. Ya Know when the Birds start nesting I keep an eye on them and discuse the types that are nesting in my yard with my Sister.....
Well I had a nest of prothonatory Warblers nesting on my porch in a gourd that I had put there for them.
I would sit out there in the evening and watch the adult birds go to and fro gathering bugs to feed the babies, and then one day they decided that the babies were old enought to leave the nest. I was sitting there on the porch and one of them took its first flight right accrosse the porch and then BAM from under the porch that Grey Cat came out and leaped up and caught the Baby bird in mid flight.
Man talk about Me Loosing my temper....... I will tell ya that that Cat baught the farm.... .32 acp right between the eye's......

By the way, I hate cats as well...the neighbours walked into our yard by the pond last year....I just happened to be out picking off chipmunks and squirrels with my .22 air rifle.....what can I say..I thought it was a really big, orange chipmunk...it now resides down back behind the shed....so sad!!Thumbs%20Up

Gentlemen I do not know the laws in your neck of the woods. Here on the other hand is quite expensive to shoot domesticated animals. “If you get caught” Very high fines, loss of firearm privileges, etc. Plus restitution of the value of the animal. Plus the Humane society and PETA breathing down your back. One must be careful not to give these guys any ammunition to attack our gun rights. There was a situation a few years back where a guy was tired of a cat marking its territory on and near his vehicle. So he removed the problem. He was fined and charged, end up costing him several thousands of dollars to get it all straightened up.

Well I failed to mention - If you do take care of a Neighborhood pest like that the best thing to do is Keep Quiet about the mess and help the Neighbor look for the critter... All the time bypassing new fresh dirt in back pasture...............

Naturally.....I was never asked if I knew anything about anything...no harm no foul....discretion is of course a given in these situations. I was always taught that there is nothing illegal....as long as you don't get caught. Evil%20Smile

If it's out of it's yard feral, and therefore fair game as far as it is concerned here.

Here's a question for the tree huggin'dirt worshippers. If global warming/climate change ( or whatever they call it this week after their latest scam gets exposed) is man made, where did the glaciers go 10,000 years ago?

To that end...am I the ONLY one that remembers the "scientists" in the early 80's runnin around screamin about "GLOBAL COOLING"?? They were telling us that we were going into another ice-age..unlike any before.Man was gonna perish cause crops were going to fail etc. They proposed putting giant parabolic mirrors in orbit to reflect the suns rays to earth & pumping sulpher dioxide(?) into the atmosphere to boost heat(down side meant we'd have a "yellow sky") So those clowns must've retired - so now its they're kids doin the chicken little routine?! All I can say is: FOLLOW THE $$

One thing is for SURE Confused All the 'developing countries' are going to have some very rich politicians if the 'developed' countries pay them to stop cutting down the rain forests and other things. Won't make a ha'pence worth of difference to the world - those on the make will be making and those that matter will be left out.
One thing is certain though - someone has got to stop the 3rd world from making children all the time and then looking to us to feed the buggers when they can't Handshake

I've never seen a pet whale, nor heard of one being milkedPinch, so I assume they're all "feral" & so fair game.
All I gotta do now is figure out how to deal with that pesky "Don't shoot over water, because of the danger of rick O'sheas." Thing & I'm orf blubber bashin with my trusty #4 & some 220 Gr loads I've worked up specially for whale huntin'.
What this Irish O'shea fellah's got to do with it bafles the heck out of me though.

No you were right the first time.
The latest pile of steaming cowflop is that as we get hotter the cooling of the ice caps (caused by the ice melting 'cause it's hotter so it'll get colder) will cool the oceans worldwide causing us all to freeze our butts off because it's getting hotter!

I now refer to Al Gore as
"Saint Al the bloated, Patron saint of Globalwarmencoolening."

As for stopping the madness they're having a global warming conference in an unprecidented blizzard as we speak. No way, the rot has gone too far.

All I know is that we are in the middle of our second snowstorm in four days. I've been in this area (north Texas) for over 21 years and we haven't EVER had that much snow since I've been here.

Global warming my rear. Texas must be immune to this sort of rubbish.

sure glad everyone is ready to stop breathing because some politicaly motivated scammer wants your cash and decided to tell you that the co2 you exhale is a polutant ,

it will leave me a bunch more space to hunt and shoot in and 'cleaner air' when you all off yourselves to save the planet ,

for me - ill adjust to the global climate change that mother nature deals me just as the living always have when it occured in the past , its called survival of the fittest and has to do with evolving into a sustainable species , or .........ill go the way of the dinosaur that couldnt adapt to what nature visited upon it ,

for now - happy new year - humans rule and al gore drools along with his 'manmade' climate controls .....ewhen he lives as he directs , or when he prooves he can use our cash to alter the climate [mother nature] ill give him a glance , till then he can just bugger off along with the rest of the 'better-than-us' hypocrits

good on ya baging those pesky goats thought! ive never been goat hunting before, i plan to get away for my bday in march. my boss told me a goat hunting story once. long story short, he was packing a .222 winchester and his two companions had a lee enfield each. they got atop of a ridge and below was a mob of 15-16 goats. his two mates made short work of them all even before he could get off a shot. hahaha

Well, I call the "climate change" baloney "Global Hot Air". There's been a direct correlation between the sun's activity and temperatures here on earth (now why should that be a surprise?). Temperatures here are warmer when sunspot activity increases. Right now the sun is at a record low in activity and guess what? The climate has been cooling off since about 2000!
