I recently aquired a 303 from a buddy who had gotten it from...another country. He was in the army.I was wondering about the knock down power being to much for some of the smaller Texas deer. After I read some of the topics about shootin bears with it. Its got me thinkin about location of my shots. I would love some input about this. Thank you

Is it a khyber pass special? Or an original Indian or Pakistani rifle that your mate bought back from the 'gahn?

Mate treat it like you would a 308. We go chasing Fallow deer here in Australia with all sorts, from 243 to stupid things like 270 WSM's or larger, and the 303 has takes its fair share of all Aussie game as well from goats up.

The 303 does not damage goat meat too much when you hammer them through the front shoulders.

And I'll be watching,

Because I'm hunting you

I'm inclined to arm myself for the nasties who will stomp, chomp, claw and gore you (I have quite a few in my neck of the woods). The smaller critters will be flattened well enough. Shot placement determines meat damage.
I'm pretty happy with the Hornady 150gr bullet. Drive it around 2700 fps.

First up welcome to the site , Secondly if your "Enfield' has come from where I think it may have come from, Please take it to a Gunsmith to get it checked out (& I mean a competent Gunsmith) The Term Khyber Pass rifle means that it was manufactured by local Gunsmiths of that area in little primitive work shops & are as dangerous to the user as the intended victim! a lack of manufacturer or proof marks is a good sign that it's a Khyber job !

As for Hunting ? The .303 is a superb round for light skinned animals a 150 gn projectile through the Head neck  or shoulders will do the job every time  for something the size of ELK or Moose or even Bear I wouldn't feel under armed with a .303 loaded with a good 180gn pill !

A Dead Camel! Is a Good Camel !!!!! Job well done !!!! The .303 has always been my choice of round for  camels !!!! Mainly due to stopping power &  Capacity & speed of getting another 10 rounds in in a hurry !
