 Just got it for part of the collection

Easy to see the quality difference between the Mklll and the other No4 bayos

 ok so the top one..in the photo  of the three is mk11?

 how come earlier bayonets had more cleaning up of the welding?

 The top one is a Longbranch No4Mkll ,

second is the No4Mklll

and the bottom is a POF No9Mk1

Here's a couple of others ,

The top is a Brit No4Mkll*

bottom is a Savage No4 Mkll

didnt they cast the MK III and machine them where as they machined the parts for the MKII and welded them together?

the mkIII was made up of punched and formed sheet pieces welded together [seven  IIRC ] to  form the socket , then the spikes were welded on [think those were from the sten bayos  [i may be wrong here] , there were nearly 200,000 made by lucas ltd [they made the electricals in my triumphs] think they were the only mfgr ,
BTW the mkII was a one piece just like the mkI without the fluting of the spike , mkII* was the machined socket with welded on spike
 
 
mkI far right  , mkII , mkII* , mkIII , no5 , no9 , no7 , - dont have the south african version of the no 9 socket with US m4 style blade

Atlanta Cutlery has these for $9.95 (US), but they do not come with the scabbard.
