My recently re-aquired MK2 with a Nikon Pro Staff 3x9 in Weaver quad lock rings and S&K base( fantastic set up BTW) and Fajen sporter butt( I have the original parts ) have spent the better part of 2 weeks hunting here in Penn..Although the scope is a definate asset in the woods, and the sporter stock is quite comfy, their benifits are almost outweighed by the increase in weight.I do ALOT of walking and after a couple miles my arms feel abit longer.I guess its another reason snipers dont move around alot! As a stand rifle its irrelevant, but if you do alot of walking and stalking can be an issue. When I used to hunt with an as issued No4MK2, I didnt mind the weight and found it to handle quicker than expected even in the brush. Some of the places I go make Cambodia look like Kansas. After season she's going back to issue configuration and the scope and sporter butt will be used for load development only.If you know how to carry one , a full length Enfield can be just as handy as a sporter or even a No5.The trick is to keep the rifle tight to your chest, the butt at hip level and have the muzzle at eye level.Everywhere you look make sure the muzzle follows. When you see something needing to be shot, its a simple matter to slide the rifle up and aquire said shooteable. This way you're not swinging the rifle around and getting it caught in the brush or making alot of unnecessary movements.Swinging a rifle across your chest is a certified attention getter!I used to hunt with my Yankee killing ( Confederate reenactor, E Co. 1st Texas Volunteers ) P-53 Enfield rifle musket.Went places with her you'd be hard pressed to swing a M94 Winchester.Got deer too!

I had a similar experience with a 3~9 scope.
I dropped down to a compact 4X & the difference is absolutely amazing, give it a try before dumping the glass altogether.
