Anyone using a 303 imp. or 303 Epps in a P14 or similsr rifle ??
Anyone using a 250 grainer in a 303, std or imp. ?? If the answer is "yes" to either of the above questions,I would realy like to hear some details.....handloads;feeding problems;hunting results, anything that might help me make up my mind on whether or not to recut my P14 sporter chamber to the improved version. I don't really want to rebarrel to a heavier calibre, (I like the 303 )but it seems a waste not to get the most out of such a strong action, and for what we hunt here in Australia, 250gr 303's are more than enough. Try 42gr's of IMR4895 for 125's, I don't use 150's much, mainly 125's or 180 RN

Was going to fireform some 303 Brit cases to 306 Confederate Sabre yesterday in a P14 I was told was a Sabre but upon firing (43 Gr. 4895/173 Match bullet) I opened the bolt and found out it was a 303 Epps.
Primer went pretty flat so I figure 41 gr. 4895 would have been better. Since I don't have 303 Epps dies I guess I will pull barrel off and rebarrel with 306 Sabre as the reamer for it will allow much longer case life.

| Back in the mid 80's I had a P14 in 303 Epps ( I should have hung onto it). I never used the epps dies, elwood just recommended neck sizing the cases once I fired formed them. I just used regualr 303 dies for that. It was a very accurate and hard hitting rifle. I just fired regular 303 cases in the chamber and viola, I had fireformed cases. I found that I really liked it with the 180 grainers. I've actually been kicking around the idea of doing one up again. |

| Take a look at the 306 Confederate Sabre. Will hold about six more grains of powder than 303 Brit and greatly increases case life in the process as it headspaces on shoulder instead of rim. |

I have a true story I’d like to share; I had the fortune the other day to talk to an “old timer” – I won’t guess his age as he told me he bought his first reloading press in 1958. He’s a kiwi who emigrated to Anyway, the story is about the .303 Improved. He told me that in the very early 1960’s [he seems to think 1961], while in Africa he was working on a modification to the .303 – of which there were quite a few knocking around. He reamed out the chamber and changed the shoulder angle to produce what they called the .311 RWS Express. It transpired that an American came a visiting at that time – was very interested in the cases and took a few back with him. Not too long later, this old timer was “surprised” to see that a Canadian gunsmith by the name of Epps had “invented” the Epps Improved. He said, it was an exact copy of the .311 RWS Express and he wished he hadn’t given away the cases. The old fellow’s name – John Hall. Too late to correct history now, but interesting to reflect. ------------- Evil is when good men do nothing about it. |

I load If you want it really stoking along, try 45.5gn of AR 2206H for a MV of 3,000 fps! Best in No.4 actions and approach with caution. ------------- Evil is when good men do nothing about it. |
