Went to the gun show in Jacksonville, AR today. Prices down almost to reasonable levels on most things... but the price of old military rifles was astonishing - beat-up SMLEs that had been run over by something with cleats were priced at $500 or so, with a couple of No.5s at $750. With the exception of two that one guy had for $175 each - one sporterized and what looked like a commercial or very nicely converted one, both with the No.1 style charger bridges, but they had small round cocking knobs instead of the usual serrated tabs. Not having $175 in my pocket, I hid my eyes and carefully backed away from the table.

<sigh>

Went to a show yesterday two things stood out: A No4 Mk2 ex mummy wrap for $1350 and a "Early" read low number 1903 Springfield for $3200. I managed not to laugh at either.  Why do I waste time, and money, going to these things?

"No4 Mk2 ex mummy wrap for $1350"
*cough, splutter*
Mine was a flippin' bargain at less than 1/2 that price & still wrapped.
Shocked

I'm sooooooo glad I don't actually need anything!

I've quit going. Partly because I don't need/want anything I can't get a better deal on via the web. Partly because round here close to DC/Baltimore, the prices have doubled as the sales have halved.

There's a bubba'd #4 (poorly butchered stock, but metal intact if in fair/medium condition no matching numbers) for $350.00.
It's been there for a while but was originally priced at $325! I asked why the price had gone up when it wasn't selling at the old price & was told it had to make back the extra storage costs now.

The last few show I have been to were slim pickens on the Enfields, did see a few Mausers chopped up into hunting rifles, were nice and professionally done. There were plenty of Mosin Nagants for sale at idiotic prices.
