Hey all. My name is Mark, and I just picked up a nice 4/44 No.4 MKI off of Gunbroker. I have given it a thorough shakedown, and it's actually in decent shape. The "original" (who knows if it really is?) buttstock is cracked, as is the rear sight, so these will be repaired or replaced. Otherwise, after a thorough cleaning or two, I'll be putting some rounds downrange!

I'm very interested in reloading, as .303 British surplus is barely any cheaper than new loads! Coming from (although also rather new to) the Mosin Nagant world, the cost is (relatively) staggering- $1+ per round, vs. $0.16 for 7.62X54R surplus! Yikes! :) I'm on a starving student budget, so that hurts!

So, I'll be putting up another newbie post in the reloads section, but any and all help/advice would be appreciated! This is rifle #2 in my collection of WWII-vintage rifles. I'm trying to replace the AMAZING collection my grandfather had- he was a Marine in the Pacific in WWII, and had brought back one of just about everything with him from that theater, and had bought and traded for one of just about everything from Europe as well. Living in FL, he had a Class III, so he even had an all-original, numbers matching BAR! Such a cool weapon! Sadly, upon his passing, my alcoholic uncle, now since deceased, pawned the entire collection for just over $3,000(!!). Lucky pawn shop owner, but for me, as the family history nut, a tragedy. Anyway, thanks in advance for any and all help- cheers! :) Mark W.

Welcome to the forum.  Springfield Sporters or Numrich arms has what you need the buttstock will be about $20-25  and the rear sight is about $25-30 for one with the micrometer adjustment. Reloaading is the way to go with the 303.  I'll post my recipes at your post there.

Thanks, man. I already ordered a MKII rear sight to replace the one on mine, and I'm looking into the buttplate- not the whole stock- just the plate :) Cheers- Mark W.

OK- so I purchased a sling for this (also dated '44), but it doesn't seem to match the hardware I have- it has two curved semi-hooks, which won't match the loops on my rifle- am I missing a part, or is this the wrong sling? Thanks! Mark W.

If the sling has brass end tabs riveted to the webbing & there are a pair of "hooks"facing inwards towards each other coming out of the brass then you have the correct sling.
To use it you pass the end of the sling through the swivel then wrap the strap back over itself & pinch the strap so the hooks grab the sides of the strap webbing.
Done properly the hooks face out away from the wood when complete or they'll mark up the wood very quickly. I'm afraid I don't have a picture, but someone else probably does.
