Greetings to all.  I am a new Enfield collector and have recently acquired a wire wrapped grenade launching Enfield and had questions about the markings on the buttsocket area.  The right side has a crown cypher with what vaguely appears to be a GR.  Far below that is SHTLE, below that III. The left side has a large U behind the safety lever, farther below a broad arrow, below that a RIF, below that 1927. On the left side of the receive in front of the safety lever is vaguely CAL 303 British, then
SPR SPIRPN RN PA, or at least that is what the letters appear to be.   The serial number is C4702 found on the receiver, magazine, and bolt.  The bolt also has a SA with a F below it.  All metal surfaces are covered in black material, wire wrapping is intact, and GR in two places above  the chamber area.
The rifle also came with a grenade cup covered in similar black paint, dated 1942 and a faint S? & B, with HL 1942 on  the opposite side.  The bore really looks good after cleaning and looks like a shooter as well.  I am hoping to be able to find or load some grenade launching cartridges to fire tennis balls.  Any help would be appreciated.

i have a typo error on the previous post.  The mark above the chamber in two places is GF, not GR.  Sorry for the confusion.

i think you have an ishy rifle and GR is correct but followed by an I , should then say ishapore , then date - if 1927 , then the rest ....

this based on the date ....the cypher changed over time , and unless it was a rework of a brit rifle ....

Welcome to the Forum. The "SPR SPIRPN RN PA"  Stands for Springfield Sporters Penn Run Pennsylvania
they once imported a great deal of surplus rifles up untill the 1990s. Now they are one of the better parts suppliers.
