I cannot seem to find a sling for My No4 in South Africa and it is too expensive to get one from over seas as our exchange rate sucks.

I am looking into getting a replica made.  What is the length and width of the sling for the No2 Mk4.
A picture would also be appreciated so I can copy the colour.

Many Thanks.

I don't honestly know how bad the exchange rate is but I suspect its not going to be worth getting the brass fittings made because of the one off cost?
I regularly see original khaki Lee-Enfield web slings here for U.S. $ 15 ~ 20 (141~188Rand if I did my math right)Star.

This site should get you all the info you need if you do try to make a replica. Its under non-patterned equipment/weapons. I didn't post a length or width because there were several versions & you can decide which one you want to copy for yourself after you browse all the options.

is it illegal for one of us to post you a sling there ?

a nice web sling is not so big a purchase here and would not be too expensive to post , as long as they dont slap you with some kind of extravagant tax to receive it , a gift from one friend to another perhaps ?

Hi.
Thanks for the idea.

It is not illegal to post it here.
Customs Tax is normally only applied to commercial items and items worth more than R500.

If You could let Me know how much it would cost to purchase and forward the sling to Me would be great. And a picture to see what I would be paying for.
We can then work out the other details then.

Before you buy a sling check and see if you need two slings. Save the secound one for the next rifle or trade it with a mate.

Should not add a lot to a package weight and mark the package "textiles"

Ammo pouches, slings, etc. of canvas or leather are textiles when shipped.

It should be possible to get a couple of slings into one of those USPS "If it fits it ships" boxes. If so you're only looking at about US$5~6 for shipping. Do check the weight though, I've run foul of that because there are weight limits on the boxes but only for international shipping.
I'm guessing you could do the whole thing for about twenty to twenty five bucks for one sling & shipping or thirty five for two!

When I ship out of country I ship in locking plastic bags, sealed with clear tape.

I do the same thing. That way it's easier to keep bits from flopping all over the box when you are shipping like small parts and such. Also if it is packed in a clear bag then 99% of the time, if Customs opens the box for inspection they will not open the clear bag because they can see into it just fine, so no worries on lost small bits during an inspection.

Bear43,

You are correct.

Plus if the package get wet your stuff does not get wrecked.

I purchased my canvas sling from IMA.
http://www.ima-usa.com" rel="nofollow - www.ima-usa.com
It was $15 US and for a couple extra bucks they picked one out that had the brass stamped 1949, the same date as original manufacture of my rifle at Fazerkaly.  A nice touch.
