winter is indeed here ,
its not that cold here yet but coming tomorrow , its in the very low +20s now but the wind is whistling creating a near below zero windchill ,
6" of snow yesterday and 4" the day before meant removal this morning , cleared the steps , walks , and front deck first , took an hour and a half , could not feel my toes and fingers so in to warm for an hour , back out for another hour blowing out the drive and clearing the snow plows drift at the street , in again still cannot feel my toes but the tingling in the fingers has subsided and the pink color is back ,
http://s1034.photobucket.com/user/watabmike/media/mikesphotos017_zpsa15ac679.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">
overnight the house creaked and popped , some loud as a rifle shot , -16f here right now , sunny but wont get very far from zero , but ......
we have it easy compared to those on that texas to pennsylvania corridor [actually all the way up east coast ] they are getting hit with a belt of ice that is taking out power , and cancelling flights , bad part is there is a second storm following the first ,

We missed out on the snow here, A_square. We had about 3" and that was it but we did get a nasty layer of freezing rain first. Temps here are the same, get ready for tomorrow morning though. Our straight temp in the morning is forecasted to be -25F.

My brother-in-law lives in Albuquerque, NM. I visited them there a couple summers ago and yes, those lofty highs make one wish for colder temps. It was so hot the pavement melted and staying indoors with an air-con is the only way to go. Been to Florida too, it was so hot it was unreal! Once in a while it gets to 41+C in the lower central regions of BC, a dry heat but once again, a person has to be so careful as to not get heat stroke. Gee...all this talk about oppressive heat makes me want to go outside and enjoy the arctic out-flow we are experiencing today! LOL.

Ah..nice thing about being sandwhiched betwixt 2 great lakes..the warmer temps of the lakes have a tendency to protect us here. This time of year, the prevailing winds are westerly. But the warmer temps on Erie kinda deflect the winds, so south shore of Erie & North shore of Ontario get clobberated. If you add in the snow coming off of Georgian Bay / Lake Huron you REALLY get lambasted! North Penn, upstate NY get the effects of L.Erie's wrath. When the winds shift to Northerly, we usually get spared, but higher elevation (Niagara Falls) gets it. I was cutting my lawn in a T-shirt one year-bout this time-& I could see the snowstorm hitting Niagara Falls to Buffalo.Man, they REALLY got dumped on that time! Hoadie

OK, updated. Both I-70 & I-81 have been treated & plowed. It is still snowing though but they seem to have it under control. Local roads are still not plowed though so I'd avoid 11 if you think of it as an alternate route.
This is my back road. It actually passes through the bushes in the distance & carrries on up the other side of the hill, but this angle doesn't show the jiggle so it looks blocked.

-93.5C you say....nah, that's merely a Saskatchewan heat wave! JK'g of course. I have a friend in Ottawa who works for the Geological Survey of Canada and he is currently near Elsemere Island working with a crew of other geologists. They stay in outfitter tents, have to be helicoptered into the region with all their supplies to last a month then they get outta Dodge. They are armed for polar bear encounters of the dangerous kind but he says the main enemy is the frigid arctic weather. You couldn't pay me enough to do that job but he loves the workout! He has spoken of -72C without the wind chill but -93.5C?? INCROYABLE!!

I'm envious. We're having uncomfortable heat here in NZ (the hottest in recorded history I think). I had a bad hot day at work (which I am now recovering from with copious amounts of light beer - three cheers for beer! ) Auckland has pretty awesome winter weather, never going over 15°C (and seldom going down to frost levels - in fact, never in my part). Bring back winter!

We've had a bit of a break the last few days, temps just above freezing to the old snow is melting pretty well. But now we have a winter storm warning from 5:00 am to morrow through the weekend. Supposedly blowing snow & freezing rain/sleet.

For very light snow Hoadie you can use a leaf blower to move it.

Well you wont have a problem keeping your BEER cold !!!!! I remember doing that when I lived in Germany !!! Many times I had to stand before the CSM and get my but chewed for sitting my Beer out on the ledge of our barracks window in the snow that had accumulated there !!!
I would try that down here , but the cans get all muddy !!!!

You know guys reading all of your posts about snow really makes me chuckle and think "What the heck is wrong with us guys back here in the UK?" If we get 2 inches of snow we think we are having a terrible winter and are reverting back to the ice age, and if it gets to 4 inches deep then all he!! and sheer panick breaks loose and the whole country seems to grind to a halt!
Me, I like a couple of inches of virgin snow - It gives me the perfect opportunity to see exactly what is moving about on the land where I shoot - Fur, Feather or Human!

ARGH! Snowed all night..Still snowing!(This is like MD weather! )Most things were cancelled last nite (ie: Legion bar) Your right Rhino-God is keeping my beer warm..only problem is, the back deck is drifted in..every time I want a beer, its "hide & seek"!! Using a snowshovel to find yer beer aint fun! Snowmobiles runnin up & down the streets last nite..makes me wanna string wire across the road, bout chest high! (Buncha rotters!) & they'll be the first to complain when I go outside @0630 with the snowblower..makin too much noise while they sleep, U see.. Hoadie

Don't feel too bad, Frenchie, MD closes down the whole state if we just get a threat of snow. When I moved here first from upstate NY (where we measure snowfall in feet, not inches) I was bycycling to work, about a mile each way. They threatened 1/2" of snow & everyone wanted to know how I was going to get to work. I told 'em: "Just knock it down a cog & pedal harder".

I am confused here?
I did not know that Hoadie had brass balls?
I had heard by way of the next net,he (Hoadie) had one of steel and one of steel.
All the girls call him sparky!
NC is recovering from another winter storm. Got a inch of rain yesterday.
