For sure and I can just imagine that many near or even record breaking large moose have been taken using a Lee Enfield .303! Hunters especially back in the day didn't care about records, just feeding the family. Once in a while while out in the field, I meet other hunters and when we start talking about our rifles and they see my 'old' Enfield they ask how old I am...I ask 'why ask that' and they just smirk at the age of my gun. They are corrected quite promptly and I always include the statement that I am keeping the Enfield legacy alive. I also remind them that more medium to large sized game animals have been taken in Canada and elsewhere using the .303 round than any other round (30.30 a close second imho). It may be out dated in many people's eyes given the popularity of magnum rounds and that is fine, just don't knock the old .303. People in the know...just know. Hopefully someone here has that article handy, I sure would like to know the size of that animal you spoke of, daneko. ------------- Castles made of sand slip into the sea.....eventually |

I always use .303 in my hunting. Took two moose two years ago (cow & bull) .303 will take ANYTHING on this continent - handily. Anything bigger - in my opinion - is overkill. ..& you will be VERY hard pressed to find anything more reliable!  Hoadie ------------- Loose wimmen tightened here |

| I believe the record Elk for a while (half a century ago) was taken with a 30-40 Krag which is balistcly similar to the 303. I'd have nor fear taking a bull moose or elk with a 303. |

I always get a kick out of people who knock older calibers like they don't work anymore. My first retort is usually something akin to "Yeah,,, Muzzleloaders and black powder don't work any more either?" That usually shuts them up. So far I haven't found anyone willing to be shot at by any "Obsolete Caliber." So far in my life the only caliber I have developed a use for that is newer than 1960 is the .40 S&W, and I could do pretty much everything I need to with a .45ACP if that one didn't exist.
