I have an LSA in 257 Roberts rimmed that I intend modifying to a Lee Speed style sporter ( doesn't everyone ? ) in 375x2-1/2 NE and would like to fit my vintage 4X Pecar to it....traditionalists look away now....so I am looking for a side mount scope mount that will fit or at least one I can modify to fit. If anyone has one they would part with or knows of one, let me know.

Hmmm,  I actually like the way it used to look!

Wot's going on there with the end cap?

Asquare, I think that he modified the full length forearm into the short one.

Interesting nose cap adaptation.

I have thought about building a woodset in similar form that goes right up the the muzzle. Need to find a neat way to terminate the end. Nose cap or horn tip? The impression I would try to create would be an officer's carbine without fittments for bayonet. Classy little guns.

Yumastep, nice little project that you have there. Looking good!

If you get a forearm tip from a military 98 mauser, cut off the bayonet lug, and shorten it by about half - it works nicely for a mannlicher type of tip.

........and thats exactly what I did in both cases.........the fore stock is the original one shortened......and I used a Mauser bayonet mount, cut off the bayonet lug and welded and modified it to fit.

If you go to "purists look away" in this section of the forum you will see the original posting of the version with the full stock.

A few years back I used a Williams side mount to scope a previously sporterized #4 rifle for a customer. It gave the rifle a suitably 'period look' I think. Also you can get rings for it to either mount the scope to the side (for a rifle that still has the charger bridge you can still load with chargers) or over the top center of the rifle.

Looking at Brownells.....did you use the 70 or 71 mount ?

The one I did was a #4 so I used the flat one, SM-71. The SM-70 can be had with a shim pack to fit the SMLE reciever. I'd just call Williams and order direct, they'll ship the shim pack at no additional charge IIRC.

.......as I can't seem to find the mounts that I like I've decide to stay with open sights for this one ( more traditional anyway     )
Now my question becomes.....whats the best sight, preferably express style, for this project ??
My thoughts are a single standing leaf with no more than two flip up leaves as I would not like to shoot more than 250 metres with this calibre....or my eyes!

        Roger

P.S. Englishman_Ca .....you can have the fore-end tip as well

......yes, the single standing with two folding, but unmarked so that I could regulate and mark them to the distance I wanted.

.....I apologise for not replying to PMs, as I generally forget to check them !!

Thanks, but I think until I can find some mounts like the Gibbs, I'll stick with the open sights.
