I just wanted to share my excitement at FINALLY purchasing said bayonet for my #5. Not cheap, that's for sure but it is mint. Here is the write up written by the vendor. (My #5 is a 1947 BSA). "British, No.5 Jungle Carbine Bayonet (Poole 1947), MK VI Scabbard By S294 (Wilkinson) And Frog. Sn 11873 - 11873 This is an excellent original British No.5 Jungle Carbine Bayonet and Scabbard With Frog. The bayonet with 8" Bowie style clean blade ( 12" overall) has muzzle ring, cross guard and pommel with lug button that has a good strong spring action. It has undamaged slab wood grips secured by 2 srew bolts. The ricasso is stamped 'P' (Royal Ordnance Factory Poole) and dated '1947'. The pommel is stamped with WD arrow over ‘F5’ and ‘B’ together with ‘C2’ over ‘B’. The bayonet is complete with its MK VI steel scabbard with steel mouthpiece and is marked above the frog stud ‘S294’ denoting Wilkinson manufacture which is undamaged with original black paint finish and webbing frog the rear of which is ink stamped with unreadable numbers. No figures are available for poole’s production but they were only made for a couple of years so figures would be small compared to Wilkinson for example who made approx. 188,354 (see pages 238-40 of Skennerton’s book British & Commonwealth Bayonets)." Hoadie, I inquired for you about availability of a #5 bayonet for you and got a response that they do get them in quite often so check out this link JC Militaria. Hoadie, check your incoming messages.

Searched everywhere online. Gun shows in my area were a futile attempt. I almost bought a re-pro but that went against my grain so I held out for the real McCoy. I hope Hoadie finds one as well, I sent him a link. I'll post pics of the rifle with the bayonet attached on this thread.

ACK!! That's BOOTIFUL!! I a-feared about how much u paid. Thanx fer the link..I'm asking for more info on it, cuz there is no markings visable, its nowhere as clean as the one you got..& I get the impression the frog is a re-pro. (Not to mention the name "DEREK" cut crudely into the handle)

Found a couple of bayonets for a #5 carbine over here but a he!! of a price 1 at £185 stirling, and 1 at £245 stirling way over the top in my opinion.

Hoadie, let's tell the whole story. You where send out side to play with scissors.
Now you have a fixation with bayonets.
It is a good thing you where not sent out to hang up your sister's clothes on the clothesline.

yes - its the pattern 1907 hookie and its inspiration - the japanese T-30 , i gifted that japanese bayonet to my FFL of many years to go with his T-99 that his grandfather had gifted him , he transfered more weapons to me free of charge than i can even count [i have always followed the law in buying and selling guns]

What came first, the British or the Japanese hooker?
I guess it is like the old question on what came first, the chicken or the egg. It was the roster that came first.

the japanese was first - the pattern 1907 hookie was the clone , we all learn from those that go before us , must admit it is an elegant piece

..hey-got a question. I've been eyeing a bayo for the carbine on a link that Canuck sent me...they claim its original.(Doesn't look anywhere near as nice as Canuck's). Anyway - there is NO stamps on it anywhere..yet they still claim its original. Can that be right? I always thot maybe incorrectly - that manufacture for D o D had to have your stamp on it. What say you?

these can be seemingly lacking in markings but will have it there somewhere , mine is a poole - the marking is a small P in a circle , the more wear the more difficult to see , in general the wilkinson ones are better marked , these saw hard service in some cases in the jungles - this would not deter me , in fact my BSA no5 had a Wilkinson blade that showed a lot of wear and tear , i traded it for other things and retained my FAZ with the poole bayonet ,
i cannot speak to the radecliffe who assembled and finished or the viners or elkington as ive never seen one of either of those mfgrs , but i believe that as wilkinsons were marked WSC or S294 [their war code] viners would have used VNS or N79 , and elkington probably used their war code M78 ,
sorry i cant show any photos - i never took any over the years ,
FYI - the early no5 had a single screw thru the grip scales , later had two ,
the ones made in india generally have very clear markings GRI / RFI - these are generally called out as the repros but im not certain that is a good name for them ,
i would be more leary of one that had lots of traditional markings - that would be uncommon for these ,

Ive been looking for one for quite a while myself. Thought I had found one at the Birmingham, AL gun show a couple of weeks ago but the seller would not split up his bayonet and rifle. I attended the TN Military Collectors Association show in Nashville this past weekend and this was on the second table I visited. The exhibitor said he had just acquired it in a collection he bought. Bayonet is pretty close to new condition. 1946 Poole. Not sure if the frog is the appropriate version and the blade has some hardened black paint-like substance in spots, possibly Suncorite from the sheath. Anyone know what would dissolve that stuff with damaging the blade?
