Here's my recently acquired Lee-Enfield N°4 Mk I*, made by Stevens /US in 1943. It's marqued FTR and seems to have been completely overhauled with new stock and barrel.

So far, I had zeroed it with factory S&B FMJ. I'm no fan of the latter but they shot so and so, still staying within the black of a pistol target at 100 meters (109 yds) ; at least, it provided me with some brass... Lately, I went back to the range with my 1st. handloads to discover the rifle's preference. For starters, I chose the 174 SMK and 2 powders, N135/37.0 and N140/39.0. The former grouped rather good, showing potential to build up. Then I shot the N140 loads and : bingo, it grouped within 1.6 MOA.
http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Othe!!o041990/media/L-E%20group_zpsvvk0wbw9.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">
I had heard lots of bashing the L-E's accuracy and was happily surprised of the results. However, the bedding puzzles me and I haven't seen its like on another milsurp. The forearm is fully floated at the muzzle end and, as shown in the pic beneath, there seems that an insert has been placed as a pressure point in front of the receiver. It's very nicely done and I wonder if this happened at the factory ? Anyone knows of this, your comments are welcome.

It doesn't work.  For years, my pics have been hosted by Photobucket and I never had trouble posting photos on the other (numerous) forums I've subscribed to.

Here, my pics do show up under "preview" all right but when I want to conclude, this is the message I get  in return ?!?

500 - Internal server error.

There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

Welcome to the forum.
If the muzzle is fully floating; check to see if there are any marks such as "regulated by Fultons" stamped on to the action.
It may have a bedding pad around the mid band area and free to the muzzle as well as under the knox form. These type of modification's are often found on rifles used for target shooting.
However a properly set up Lee Enfield will generally shoot very well;  extra work bedding and modifications may only gain a very small improvement over a well put together original

OK lets get this fixed for you.
1: which of the several links in Photo Bucket are you using?
2: Are the images resized (There's a limit to image size because of bandwidth & storage)
3: (Daft I know) you aren't posting then deleting from PB are you?

Shamu & Rhino,
That's correct, I click on the IMG window to copy the photo URL from Photobucket and then, paste it within my text. Regarding photo size, they are respectively 465-425-107 Ko. The photos still reside on Photobucket, I know that deleting a pic from the hosting site severes the link with formerly posted photos.

Zed,
As you will see, after we succeed in posting the pics, the insert (pressure point ?) is located under the area where barrel and receiver meet (knox point ?). No mention of Fulton or other tuner, just FTR stamping on the left of receiver.

Phot Bucket is working for me ... maybe yours is corrupt , I would suggest using the other sight thatSW28fan posted ....unless you can figure out whats going on with your photo bucket ....
I have heard people say in the past that photo bucket changed something and all their photos were locked .... or removed ...
guess its only a matter of time for mine to go south !!!!

I tried again and I can't understand what's going wrong. Photobucket works on Accuratereloading, Gunboards, Surplusrifle, etc. E.g. :

http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=146556

Also, the pic does appear in "preview" until I hit "update post" and from then on, it's gone. Go figure...

OK try this:
in Photobucket click on the "direct" link from the options in the popup box when you click to "share" the image.
in the post manually type (left square brace) "img" (right square brace) then paste the link.immediately after the text link type (left square brace) "/img" (right square brace). it should look like this, but with the "[" symbols replacing the "{" I'm using to not confuse the forum.
{img}picture data from photobucket{/img}

OK that didn't work either. The above is the exact string of text you have pasted into your link, but PB can't locate what it refers to. That's why you're getting all the errors.

Now if you click on the magenta text it goes to your bucket. What is messing it up is everything else after the color change of the type.
Now I went to your album, (using the magenta test), clicked "share" on this image, then clicked on the "direct" option. & I'm going to try 2 ways to get it to post.
Method 1, use the tree (image)icon in the header of the dialog box.
To make it work you have to delete the automatic HTTP the site adds.

We have a misunderstanding.
The color is just HTML's method of denoting what bit of a text string is a link. just changing the color won't fix it.
Whats happening is your text string from PB starts with the "HTTP//" identifier, when you link into the forum it automatically adds a second "HTTP//". If you remove both its also messed up. What is needed is a single HTTP prefix. That's what I did with the pics of the dog. If there's none it doesn't know what to do with the text, if there's 2 it thinks your filename begins with "HTTP//HTTP//" & cant find it so it gives the error message.

I don't use photobucket at all. I have an I-Mac computer, so just export the photo to documents and size it medium size JPEG. Then select it from the documents when using the photo icon in the  "Post Reply " menu (not the quick reply).
I'm no computer expert; but would that not be possible on Window's as well?

What I can't understand is why I can post pictures from your PB album, but it won't let you do so?
When I open the HTML editor window I see the original coding as text. If I try opening the link, directly from HTML, bypassing the forum entirely I get into Photobucket, but it doesn't think the image exists with the text string name you post. Something is messing up the linking in such a way that the HTML editor sends the info to PB, but in some way changed so that PB doesn't recognize it.

What browser are you using?

Inspired by out Mac using, ami français Zed, above, I discovered I could post by uploading pics from my computer to your site and then inserting them in my message, using the command icons from the headline.  Still, it does'nt explain why I can't post the regular way (like I do on all other forums), by simply pasting the Photobucket link address ?!?  BTW, I'm using all 3 navigators : IE 11, Firefox and Edge.  I have a list containing the links of hundreds photos stored on Photobucket.  So, when I want to show a pic, I don't need to acces PB, just copy/paste from my list, even several pics in a single move ; it sure makes photo operation much easier and less time consuming than uploading + inserting 1 by 1.Cry

Thumbs Up

"I have a list containing the links of hundreds photos stored on Photobucket.  So, when I want to show a pic, I don't need to acces PB, just copy/paste from my list"
I wonder. Could there be something you don't see embedded in your list that's causing the problem? Just for fun, try posting directly from PB, as I've been doing & see if that works better.

That's a good looking rifle Andre. The wood looks very similar to my No4 Mk1/2.
Do you have service rifle competitions in Belgium? seems like it would be good for that.

I recently bought some N140 powder; but have not had time to test it yet. It was not easy to get so I've been using Vectan SP7 which is giving good results with 174gr bullets.

This pic of the dog was done exactly as you describe from my PB album. I'm afraid I'm lost. If i try to post the exact text I get the double HTTP// that I thought was the problem, but I can't see the preview either??? If I delete the duplicate it works perfectly, both in the preview & in the posted image????

Are you using this exact link (Direct) from PB, or a different one from the drop down menu?

Bonjour Zed,

My rifle was made by Stevens-Savage in 1943 but got FTR in 1953. Barrel, stock and bolt head were replaced. It shoots very nice and I just settled on a pet load : 174 SMK / N 140 / 40.0. Vithavuori N 140 is kind of a magic powder, though sometimes hard to find, due to high demand and often proved itself as the best choice in most non-magnum calibers. I use it in .308 Win, .30-06 (military rifles), 7,5 Swiss, 6,5 SE (120 g bullets, 140's prefer N 160), 8x57 JS, .303 British, 9,3x62.

In Belgium, we also compete with services rifles, the same as in France. The only difference lies with the name, here it's called "tir au fusil d'ordonnance" as compared to T.A.R. in France.

Andre, thanks for the load info. I will be testing loads in my No4 and also my No1 rifle. Both rifles shoot well and getting the load right will hopefully improve the regularity.
For accuracy, the No1 rifle tends to like slightly slower velocities than the No4; so I may end up with two different loads!

That's quite a common occurrence. I have two .300 Win Mag rifles, a Blaser R93 and a Remington 700 Sendero. Both have their preferences and I load differently (bullet, charge, primer) for each one. Also, my .30-06 Sauer 202's hunting load is way too hot for my Springfield 1903A3.
