If you're on any of the social media sites like FaceBook they're exploding with huge amounts of whining, threatening & pleading from the Liberals. I don't know how well understood the U.S. Presidential election is understood over there. Many over here don't quite get it & it's their country! Unlike the U.K. where you vote for a party &the leader of that party is PM its a multi-stage process here. There's a vote, much as we'd understand it in the UK, but then there's a separate part of the process unlike anything British. your votes give a "win" at STATE level. Each state has a calculated number of "delegates", Your votes, county by county elect individual delegates for that area. You can have some delegated from different countys elected for different partys. Depending on the individual state laws they are either appointed on a pro-rated basis, or its "winner take all". Those delegates now vote & the resulting total of the delegates from all states decides who actually wins. The delegates are supposed to vote for those who "elected" them's choice, but some choose not to. There are penalties for doing it but it sometimes happens. The purpose is to distribute the votes non linearly. A process not needed in the U.K because of geographical differences. What happened here (& the cause of much whining) is that the popular vote (what you'd thing of as "The Vote" in the UK 10,000, for "Fred the Labour Party Candidate" & 10,0500 for "Jane The Conservative" one) was reversed by the pool of delegates. The result being 780 electoral for Jane, but 755 for Fred. Its a way of giving big, but small population states a more equal say than places like New York, which is small, by heavily populated. It perfectly legal, & has been since the 18 something or others, but suddenly the butt hurt lot want it reversed because they were (somehow) "cheated". we welcome all that choose to come in the proper manner , just sayin .......... as to our election process , our consititution was set up to protect all to the best of the founders ability , we didnt want an over populated small area to override the large areas with small populations , all have a say as equally as possible , its why our senate is two per state and our house is populated based on population , its why we have three branches of government - presidential , congressional and judicial , with checks on each of those by the others , the problem with our liberals is they want to rule and are not willing to allow anyone else to have a say on anything , should they ever succeed in controlling exclusively we will have another civil war , they were after all the party of slavery and did in fact stifle all equality throughout the years till the late 1960s , they would exert the same if ever given true power , the same can be said for all of our freedoms of speech and so forth - they already have attempted to control that with their "hate speech" legislation , we here have the RIGHT to say whatever we want by our constitution , even if someone else does not like or want to hear it , it is the same right they use to protect their protests ,

My personal opinion is Donald will be good for us all. He appears open and blunt says what he thinks and genuinely wants to safeguard world peace. He's said the UK will get a good deal when we pull out of the EU and has already started to shut down OH! Bummer care which I know many of you detest. Oh Bummer doesn't like the uk and what it stands for, he proved that by chucking the Bust of Winston Churchill out of the office and the final insult was ringing Angle Grinder Merkel as he walked out the door. This is what they are, after all, as the President was elected in a democratic manner. Even if our pal from the swamp Hilary had been elected, it would still have been by democratic process. (Rigged voting and such aside) If these marches Were labeled "Anti-Democratic" it May make some of the supporter's think. (If they have anything to think with) ??

If the election was decided by popular vote instead of electoral votes the blue bits would have decided the president. Its a mindset. Facts are irrelevant feelings trump all else. I have friends who still are whining & will probably continue to do so for 8 years, about how they were somehow "cheated". Once pinned down that they don't know how, but they "feel it" they switch topics to things like Trumps election crowd was smaller than Obama's. Once its pointed out to them that their feelings are irrelevant as is crowd size because Trump IS POTUS, no matter if the like it or not, they get violently abusive. just thinking out-loud: Methinks we are nearing a "tipping-point". As automation & A.I. seem to be taking over..fewer & fewer people around the world have jobs. The jobs that are there are now low wage. Even China & India are feeling the pinch. Yet, because of this, the rich are getting richer, & a huge chasm is growing twixt have & have-not. The people are resenting the rich. Too many poor, unemployed frustrated people - the world over - will begin to rebel. The people blame immigration for their loss of jobs/income. Now, I fear the planet has too many people. Before the rich are hauled-out in the street, I think there will be a nasty war to "cull the herd", & bring the population to a manageable level. I have a couple of liberal reformed Jewish friends, they admit to being "Jewish, but not so much practicing as observing" (whatever that means) I guess the kosher equivalent of Christian HMD churchgoers? They are convinced the following will happen in the next 3 months now Trump is POTUS. Nazi anti-Semite laws a la Germany in 1936, including deportation to FEMA concentration camps. Mass deportation out of the country of "all immigrants" (even those who are 3rd gen, American born children of Legal Immigrants who were Naturalized). Repeal of all women's rights laws back to "1960's standards" "Negro peoples" being reduced to 100% segregation including KKK lynchings by "Alt-Right Neo-Nazi thugs" (read that as you & me)! 100% removal of all health benefits because the reason Obamacare is being repealed is so that "natural selection will breed out the mud peoples by rampant disease"! Got a few primers from them this morning. From the Liberal/progressive POV: Its OK to lie as long as you apologize for it, but only IF & AFTER you get caught. (you may continue to repeat the lie without further apology.) Cheating & fraud is OK, as long as: a: you don't get caught. b: It doesn't really effect the outcome (too much). c: you can get a redo once you admit fraud was involved. There is a base tolerance for cheating & lying. Anything less than 4 counts of them isn't countable. Here's a first. Someone on FB sent me a "Friend Request". What this means is that you have something in common, a mutual friend or interest for example. You have the option to "accept", ask a question of the person, or "decline". You usually look at the persons postings to get an idea of their views & interests & decide on yes, question, or no. I looked & his "wall" was full of insulting liberal rhetoric. The only thing we had in common was one of my liberal friends & photography. I declined. He's now gong of on an long insulting rant about how I didn't accept him, because once he'd asked my he'd "extended the hand of friendship" (to a racist bigot Nazi baby killing psychopath who was orange) so he was ENTITLED to have me make him my friend! I stay on it because I have friends from all round the world. Of that alone it is good as many of them I'd lost touch with during my 5 year walkabout. You have to develop a "babble filter" that just lets you scroll past the trolls. Many years ago I joined at the request of my daughter. I got her posts, her friends posts, her enemies posts. I got friend requests from relatives I didn't remember or care to, people I didn't know or care to. What people were having for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even gynecological appointments. What a mess.About 1am I got up and closed the damn thing forever and nevermore. I was a Facebook member for about 8 hours. Here's a little input from an Englishman living in England and who, incidentally has not even been to the States: 1. Whoever the Americans vote to be their president is their business. 2. But other countries and their people will still have a view. (The USA had a view about who ruled Iraq, for example). 3. Whatever the others think, the majority (or a very large proportion) of Americans are represented by Donald Trump. 4. He is controversial. Partly because of his policies, partly because he is not a career politician and his methods are a little alien. But nobody can say he's not direct and there's something to be said for that. It's also true that the media like to have a good story and he is great fodder for that! 5. I hope he does well and I expect, once the kerfuffle dies down, he will. If he doesn't, well in four years, you can let him know in time honoured fashion. Just some observations from outside...

we have the annual red bull crashed ice event here in st paul , supposed to get 200,000 this year , and ill see 35-40 shooters on sunday at our biweekly jackpot shoot , when compared to our third world protests of a few hundred max of late they become a non-news item , so irrelevant as to not be news worthy of coverage , my jackpot shoot matches the local protest march turnout and there wont be any chanting - just shooting , laughing and joking about , i heard there was some ball game that folks were gonna see in the evening but im not gonna party before having to go back to work on monday ,

Rugby...strange shaped ball. Lacrosse..now theres a sport!! (Canada's national sport, btw) Here, most of the players are aboriginals (it is/was their game). They will take you out in a painful way - if your white. But, they hate "apples" even worse!!(That would be an aboriginal that lives off the "res". They consider them "Red on the outside - but White on the inside".(aka: apple) If you play lacrosse with them, they will put you into a whole new world of hurt..but it sure is a great sport to watch!! A score + years ago I frequented an Irish pub. Step off a Chicago street and you were in Ireland. The southern part. I liked Guinness pints and darts. On the TV they often showed the field game of hurling. A fast and furious game some 3000 years old. The players all have bats with a kinda ping pong paddle end (hurley) and a ball that they hit towards a goal. Not much body protection considering all the players are running around blocking and swinging bats. Lotsa injuries. I've seen (college) Lacrosse and it looks sort of tame by comparison, though both require a lot of stamina and testosterone. ------------- For the pikes must be together at the rising of the moon. |
