I wish I could. I've found them occasionally but in 3 Lb kits! That's a several lifetime supply! Its basically a length of brass wire threaded with a wood screw thread, un-tapered a stud. Its used for stock repairs, you cut out the damaged bit, make a replacement, glue it in then chuck the threaded bras in a drill & screw it in then cut & file flush. You've probably seen the ends of them little brass "dots" in the wood. They are also used to reinforce potentially weak spots.  ------------- Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs. Yes probably. I hadn't thought of that. OK I found out more info. "Lee-Enfield stock repair threaded brass rod. 19 TPI BSP, Set your lathe up to cut that thread, I use uncoated brazing rod, it's the same gauge,"   The problem is they're selling it by the pound & that's a YUUUUUGE amount of the stuff.  ------------- Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs. I don't think the pitch of the tread would make much difference if it's glued; As long as it's got a bit of bite in the wood. If the rear of the fore end is split, could you not drill the locking plate either side and use small wood screws to brace the wood with the locking plate itself? It would only be visible when you remove the wood. ------------- It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice! |

Yes that would work fine. I'm actually wanting to replace a chunk of the left side wood by the receiver as its got a piece hacked out of it. I have an old, unusable stock someone butchered as a donor, but I want to see if I can actually do an British service armourers style repair.I guess any coarse thread will work as long as the diameter is right for the rod. ------------- Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs.
