I was recently given a Sanderson 1907 pattern bayonet. It is dated 4-8. From the research I have done, this should not have a clean-out hole in the pommel but it does. Is there any explanation for this hole?
Thanks in advance,

If dated 1908, it would have originally been a hooked quillion without the clearing hole. When these bayonets later had the hook removed, they were also updated by drilling the hole.
