As the subject says, i am rebuilding a sporterized(just a cut stock) No4 Mk1 Maltby i got for 150.
I posted here earlier this year in June and i have been terribly busy, and i just now have time to work on it, i want to get everything it was sent out of the factory with if i can. I just need to know what exact things i should get, like the type of rear hand guard(smooth or grooved) and the type of fore end cap.
Sense i don't know much about enfields in general, i want to try to make this as accurate as possible so if i can get any specific parts for this type of No4 Mk1 please tell me.
The stock was cut at i believe the swing swivel indentation, i still have the swing swivel and the rear hand guard ring, but i don't have any piece of the top stock. I have the original sight on it still but no sight guard,Here is the pictures, sorry for high res. Thanks in advance

You'll need the 2 handguard pieces the upper & the lower. Grooved or not is a crap shoot, the presence or absence seems utterly random, but I do prefer with.
Then you'll need the front (upper band) & its screw the nose-caps should be fitted to the new forend & upper handguard when you get them. Finally the front sight protector & its screw.
Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs. (Unofficial motto of the Royal Air Force)

So, i wanted to see if i could get away with getting a forend tip from liberty tree collectors(https://www.libertytreecollectors.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=3810&idcategory=63) Looked promising, and i also got the top rear handguard. Wood matches lovely, but i might have ran into one problem.
The forend tip makes it this far.

I do not have any of the other parts, such as the front band, sight protector and the top front handguard. Do you think i will be able to get away with the forend being in two pieces with a gap like so? And maybe i might be able to get a piece of wood that wedges between each forend piece?
Or do you think i will have to buy a full new forend. Thanks

The gap in that picture will not work. I recommend finding a full fore-end. However, do NOT throw those bits away. They are useful in splicing and patching other bits. If you need a front handguard, I have a couple pieces and I could send you one. If you are interested please PM me and I will send you some pictures of them and you can have your pick. They are NOS pieces that are unfinished and have never been fitted to a rifle.

I do have a request for you, though. I am working on a book about Maltby rifles. As such, I am interested in any pictures of the left front of the receiver and any markings on the wrist under the trigger guard. I would like to save these pictures and if you are willing to send further pictures of markings I would save them and if I use them would give you all due credit. If you want your real name associated with the pictures then you can PM me with that information.
