One last thing: is cold-pressed linseed oil the same as raw linseed oil?

Not quite. Its the level of purification that differs. I'm guessing you're looking at an art supply hose because of the terminology? What you need is probably closest to "Stand Oil", or "Bodied Oil" essentially the same thing.

I don't think it'll be a major thing. One is just more purified that the other. Do you have a health food store or supermarket with an organic section? "Flax seed oil" is the same thing but food grade.

Any hardware store should have linseed oil in stock. Raw and Boiled both...

Results will vary depending on color of wood. This is Stand Oil from an Art Supply Store and this is what the finish looks like on my rifle...
