I took the RSO course yesterday. The first thing to be discussed was the use of the,"W" word and a donation jar if we were caught using that word. I excused myself from the room momentarily to return with a five dollar bill that I tossed into the jar just in case. We were given brand new but still very outdated RSO Student Study Guides. "I'll explain why I mentioned that shortly." During the ten hour session,NOT! I took notes, highlighted everything I could think of, and underlined the answers that were going to be on the open book test. After everything was said and done and according to the NRA SOP, I missed 6 questions out of 50. When I questioned the instructor about why, he flatly stated that my answers are technically correct but because of the course curriculum being as outdated as it is as is the answer key, I would have 5 more opportunities to retake the class or I could just accept the passing grade now. I was too tired to argue. I had been there for a combined total of 11.5 hours.
I am a NRA certified Range Safety Officer now! Yay Me!!...

Congratulations!
Yeah, I did try to warn you.

No one failed. The instructor was extremely helpful and pointed out that while we were in fact "technically correct" with the answers we all "technically failed" on. It showed our combined forward thinking in wanting to establish a safe situation on the range. He had us perform a hands on test with various rifles, pistols, and shotguns to establish our capabilities if and when a stoppage or malfunction occurred. No live ammunition and no "gun" was capable of firing live ammunition during that portion of the course. Just in case you were wondering...

yes - congrats on having your creds , i understand exactly what your talking about and yet i get it that they cant have folks passing their test too easily - wouldnt look good i suppose ,

that said if this is the NRA testing i will add that they are all about money , have been for years , there is a current movement to change the upper structure of the NRA and i hope its a success , for now take your creds and do your task as outlined by your range rules , it never hurts to add to the spolution not to the problem ,
