Britrifles, this is excellent information. 
I'm so pleased that you have found the issue with this rifle.
I will be checking my No1mkIII*, as I have had issues with the vertical accuracy when shooting a string of ten round's. 
The rifle was improved by going back through the fore end fit; but I have not checked the butt, apart from checking the screw.
Probably worth checking all of my rifles actually. 
I've been off work with a bad back and haven't got anything done since Christmas. It's bloody cold in the shed at the moment too!

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Hopefully this will be of some use to others.  If that had not fixed it, my next step would be to epoxy bed the action in the fore-end, glad I did not have to resort to that. 

We have some snow coming tonight and tomorrow in North Georgia.  Good day to spend in the gun room tomorrow.
