savage striker screw

   I still have a question about the striker or cocking screw on a no4 savage, I ordered 2 more and have tried the one out of the no. 5, none will fit correctly. Normally they should seat all the way down into the cocking piece, on the savage the screw head is to big for the countersink. It only catches about 2 or 3 threads but tightens up.  SN# match up as original bolt, should I order another cocking piece ?

	Could you have a #1 type cocking piece? One of the things changed from the #1 to the #4 was the threads of the bolts!

	I tried to reply off the e-mail notice im not sure what happen, anyway, I will try to order one specific for savage (cocking piece ) model, i saw springfield sporters has them and see what happans. I have fired a few rounds ,seems to be operating ok. my concern is it is only grabbing 2 or 3 threads but does tighten up, is that enough for it to do what it is designed for or is this a non-issue

	I'm sure it should be held in by more than a few threads. To be on the safe side, I would try to obtain the proper screw to hold that assembly together with before firing any more rounds. Just my .02.

	i agree with you canuck, and i think shamu is right also. the grooves on the side of the cocking piece are different on the savage from the no5 and the no4(f)mk2 (these look the same). The screws i got from sarco do not fit any of them, head is to big, threads are the same. Not sure how to procede on this one. maybe see if i can order screw and cocking piece matched before its shipped? Or just bite the bullet and order new bolt? If you are wondering how i got here, i got excited with the buy (it was my first) didnt catch it till i got home, my bad

	Its not a Savage problem, Savage used the same threads as everyone else. It's a #1 SMLE ~ NO4 issue. Whatever brand you get make suere its a cocking piece for a No4.

	Also , For the thread depth ... You should have as much as the width of the screw or bolt your using in the threads for a proper hold ..more is better also , but can be limited to the thickness of the item its going into .....

	this is where im a little confused, the threads seem to be the same its that the screw head wil not allow the screw to seat the way it is suppose to. The screws i ordered will not seat in the mk2 or the no5 either, so i am not sure those are the right screws anyway the head is visibly bigger and flat not slightly rounded like the ones in the bolts i already have. I believe shamu is right about the bolt, i dont know what a no1 should look like but the grooves ,looking at the bottom and left side are cut different than the mk2 and no5. So i will try new cocking piece and try to get them to match the screw. Is it an option to just order a screw for a no1 cocking piece and leave it alone or will it eventually damage something , basically a no1 bolt in a no4 rifle
