Three Germans were sitting on a train in 1946. After a long awkward silence the youngest German spoke up. "Stop looking at me like that! I received the Iron Cross for heroics at Hürtgen Forest." The middle aged German scoffed, and replied "So what? I got the Military Merit Cross at Passchendaele for courage and bravery." Then the elderly German looked up and responded; "I was at the Battle of Sedan and Siege of Paris and I didn't receive any medals. But at least we won the damn war."

An old Confederate soldier was watching the Union army marching into Richmond at war's end.
He said he figgered the Union army could only march about 14 miles per year.
The young Union officer next to him asked: "How do you figger that, oldtimer?"
He replied: " Well, Richmond and Washunton is only bout 55 miles apart, and it took y'all 4 yars ta git here!"

A British pilot is shot down over Germany and bails out, unfortunately badly breaking his legs upon landing.  The Germans pick him up and take him to a POW hospital where he is told that they will have to amputate one of his legs.  Before they begin surgery the pilot looks up and asks them.

"After you cut off my leg will you have one of your pilots drop it over my base in England?"

The Germans amputate and drop the leg over his base in England.  Unfortunately the next week the Germans have to amputate his other leg and again the pilot asks them to drop over his base in England and the Germans do it.
The next week the Germans have to amputate an arm. Again the pilot asks them to drop it over his base in England. This time the German doctors' reply is different:

"Nein," the doctor says, "this we can't do anymore."

"Why not?" asks the pilot.

"We think you are trying to escape!"
