There is a No4 Mk1 (non matching) for sale locally that my buddy is (was) interested in. Dude wants $550 CDN. He asked me to check it out. Two things immediately got my Spidey senses tingling. There is about an inch space between the nose of the stock and the front site. And the big one. It has black "tiger stripes" applied on the furniture. It is a full wood stock. The stripes looked weird, so I e-mailed the dude. He confirmed my thoughts... They were applied with a hand torch! When asked, he said he'd read that this was done during the war in jungle fighting. I told buddy to walk away.

Done during the war in jungle fighting?
The scene: British Battalion #5 advancing on a German Panzer Division.
A Bloody HeII Robert's! What's the bother? It seems that I have forgotten to blow torch Tiger stripes on me Enfield. Let's find one of those crazy Yanks with a flamethrower shall we? A few hours later.....
Carl!!! Theres two Brits here in need of your cigarette lighter!!!
It doesn't look right. I forgot to remove the magazine before he started to apply the stripes.....
You think the command officer will notice? Sod off Roberts!!!

That rifle should be held away with a 10 foot pole.

One part of me says to e-mail him and call him on it. The other parts says, if someone buys it on that story, shame on them. I have no dog in this fight, but these are the kind of sellers I dislike.

Honkytonk.  The front sight has been fitted over the bayonet lugs.  I found the rifle. Lightly sand the burn marks and feather it into the unburned wood and then apply some dark mahogany stain...

Goosic. That is the rifle. I totally agree with your assessment on the front sight and I know I could bring that stock back to life. It's the story he tried to sell me when I asked him about the stripes.

There is an individual on ePay who has a No7MkI/L bayonet who has made it known to all prospective purchasers that it was in fact used at the Battle of Arnhem in a paratrooper assult.  The Battle of Arnhem was in September of 1944. The No7MkI/L was not in mass production until mid 1945. Buy the weapon not the story...

Im not sure but I don`t think there are bayo lugs on it.
Looks like the barrels`s been shortened, and the barrel crown looks funny.
Probably a barrel shortened sporter this guy or someone`s put military wood back on in hopes of getting big bucks.

Only a fool....... LOL

If you must tiger stripe a rifle do it properly!
Wrap tarred rope round it & let it sit, then linseed the stains to blur the edges.

I like the shorty, probably issued to super stealthy paratroopers trained to do house to house, FIBUA Wacko
And with that stock, wouldn`t feel any kick at all

Unless those are yours Goosic, then they`re super cool. Beer

Sweet baby Jeebus on a rubber crutch!
Evil Smile Angry
Its supposed to be a SUBTLE browning, not bloody charcoalling! Its also supposed to be done from further back so the edges are a bit subtle!
That's bloody horribule!
