I inherited a SMLE 303 from my dad about 20 yrs ago which I believe was my grandfathers, it is an all serial number matching gun that shoots well and is very clean, , question why does mine look different as far as under the barrel and the strap clips/ mount, is there something missing ? I would like to get a authentic strap for it to keep it original

Its hard to tell from the single close-up, but My guess is it's been "Sporterised", (modified & stripped down to make an ersatz "hunting Rifle") I would originally have looked much like this: ![]() Depending on exactly what has been done & how drastic the changes are it may, or may not be restorable.

Paddy has always had difficulty twixt left & right.
When he was in the army, they had to tie hay onto 1 foot & straw on t'other..that way he could stay in step..when they wud cal" Hay foot - hay foot - hay foot straw foot-hay foot! (ZING!) |
