 aperture sight would have been fitted to my rifle 
1910 mk3 NZ converted to No.2

Originally it would of been volley sights , the drilled receiver is a scope mount . Does it have the front dial sight still , it would be more than likely without the dial pointer.

It still has the dial for the front volley sight. I had figured the notch in the wood was for the rear volley sight. Read that people liked to stick aperture sights on them for 22lr comps back in the day. What are the chances that some old scopes use that thread size and dimension? Actually looking into using it in a 22lr comp for kicks this summer.

The No.2 rifle is a perfect candidate for a PH5A micrometer peep sight.  I put one on my No.2 and I get virtual ragged edge holes at 50 yds.

From the 3 drilled holes I'd guess a Lyman or a Williams of some kind?

yes , i think he meant mkIV - but i question if it had a star , this is a 1910 mkIII , might not have had that star [i had one like that - plain mkIV mine retained the volleys ] im inclined to agree with shamu , but it might have had an aftermarket added scope , that would not have been done at conversion ,

Just a few days ago I found some guy selling a PH5a sight with the longer safety screw and different eye pieces. So of course I ordered it! (hope I don’t get scammed) I think it would be funny to get a picture of the PH5A on the mkV.

Speaking of trainer sights, I’ve got a PH 5C/D rear sight.  It has a shorter windage arm than the 5c (since .22 trainers don’t typically shoot past 100 yds) and 1/8 minute click adjustments.  I have used this sight on one of my No. 4 rifles and those fine adjustments are really nice for centering the group precisely. On a relatively calm day, it makes a great 1000 yd sight, moving the bullet impact about 1.5 inches per click.
