The cartouche is not South Africa in this case  It is a broad arrow, S A for small arms, over I (part of the broad arrow tail) for Ishapore.

I concur with Lance and Enfield Trader: neither South African nor South Australia.  Post-1947 India.

Here is a table of government markings commonly found on Enfield rifles and bayonets.


I'll update the table of Indian markings to include a sample more like the one on your rifle.
