Strange Marking

   Hello,
I am new to this site, Lee Enfields, and guns. I recently purchased a No.1 Mk III* at a gun show for a fair price, and I was looking it over and I have not found any markings to indicate where this rifle was built. On the receiver near the safety my rifle reads "No.1 MK III* FR. 48". There are no markings on the other side near the bolt. However I found BA stamped underneath the barrel of my gun. Another perplexing thing to me is my serial numbers (the gun is not matching besides the sights and receiver) while the majority of the rifles I researched begin with a letter or two mine start with 5 numbers and end in Y (32*** Y), also my nose cap doesn't even have a number, is that normal for this type of rifle? Finally the last thing I have a question about is that I have no stamps or markings on my wood is that normal?

	Actually scratch the no markings indicating where the rifle was built, it is a GRI.

	I'm halfway out the door at present so cannot get into this any deeper now. Go on the Internet and type in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee-Enfield . Read the article and I believe most if not all your questions will be answered. If you do have a "true" Rifle No. 1 Mark III* Enfield that has all its regular manufactured parts (and not thrown together with many other spare parts), you should have markings on the "wristguard" (located on right side of rifle under bolt handle ) which will help to identify it. My wristguard has stamped into it: top line - the Royal Crown "emblem", under that the initials "G.R.", under that the company that made it: "B.S.A. Co." (Birmingham Small Arms Co., LTD.), next line: "1917" (the year it was made), then the 5th line: "Sht. L.E.", and finally the last line: "III*". Hope this helps.
