recently picked up a nice no.5 and turns out to be an april 1944 Fazakerly gun.  However the socket has had the original serial lightly crossed out and re-numbered in an unfamiliar number font and  samped "C P J".  The bolt has also been re stamped with this new 6 digit number.   The style of the digits do not resemble any other known factory or ftr digits, especially the style of the number 1.  There are no other blatant indian marks as that was my first guess

Joesalter.ca had one for sale a while ago with CPJ, and they also assumed secondary ownership as well, but no notion as to whom.
I did an exhaustive search but came up blank, I`m sure there is an answer, just not on the internet that I can find.
Very interesting rifle.

it would be really hard to trace things after service as well as secondary service yet often the markings indicate the country of secondary use , im hoping someone here with better refernces than i have remaining of my collection might enlighten you ,

its not uncommon for secondary users to renumber , its not uncommon for cadet schools to renumber , but its also not uncommon for units to add rack numbers and such , the ausies added a new number for their home guard rifles but they also generally added the military district number to theirs , i know very little what new zealand did but its a thought as well , those folks are here on this forum - we are an international setting , maybe some of them will confirm or deny my thinking here ,

i wosh we had more greek visitors but i know we have french and netherland representatives - perhaps they might recognize the markings when they look in , be patient ....we have folks here thatr will check in and respond if they have anything to add , im sure you will get better answers when they do ,

i dont know of any in singapore or many of the contract countries these were supplied to but i believe we can get you better than i have given you if you heck back ,

thank you guys for the help!  The CPJ stamp i hope will point me somewhere.  the C is backwards.  Ive seen on another forum someone had a CPJ stamped enfield revolver but no mention of how or where that occurred.

Also to note... my bolt head has what looks like two crossed swords or kukris and a P stamp.  Im used to seeing crossed flags, not swords..

That (backwards letter) may be a khyber pass thing? Or maybe Indian?

Further to my original question,  the serial appears to be stamped not electro penned.  there is a date visible of 4/44 which the camera did not capture   Is this indicative of any ftr work or were some fazakerlys stamped like this?  this is not the first no.5 that ive seen this way.    I am untimately trying to determine if this gun has ever been ftr'd or been worked on by ishapore.  so far i dont think so, but the strange stampings on the reciever have me stumped.      there is a small asterisk on the reciever ring as well.  some say this means rust in the bore but thisbgun actually has the nicest bore of any of my rifles.

also does the p stamped on the bolt head mean anuthing? instead of crossed flags it has what looks like crossed kukris

thanks again

If the bore rust was bad the barrel may have been replaced in service. That star on the breech is more accurately described as "once had rust in bore or chamber"

The`P` on the bolt head more than likely refers the the parts maker A. Poole & Sons, Redditch.
I can`t speak for the x`d swords, Wilkenson used it, don`t know who else.
Thought maybe Pakistan but their mark would be M upward facing arrow D and centered under that a P
Can you post a close up of the bolt head?

The P I`d say is Poole, the Arrow is British ownership the crossed swords more than likely an inspection mark.
How ever I think it would be safe to say with those secondary numbers stamped on it it was owned by some other country, the Brits did sell a lot of these world wide.
