I wish all our American friends a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

We have the holiday of Thanksgiving.
It all started with just thanksgiving.  I wish that sentiment to all.

Agree... but I'm very concerned about the "Thanksgiving 3rd Wave" that will absolutely happen after reading about our US friends plans for air travel and large family gatherings this festive season...

It was dinner for two.

53 years ago it was turkey from MERMIT cases 100 yards from a burned out C130.

A lot to be thankful for.

Due to Coronavid-19 restrictions we couldn't have a family gathering for Thanksgiving.
Doubly sad as we did have a wake for our pet bacon-stuffed turkey, "Tom" who passed recently, as that was legal.

Not very. Its shielded from the heat inside the body cavity.
I usually discard it, but keep the "drippings" for making the gravy though.
It adds a subtle bacon flavor to the turkey breast.
I baste every 15 minutes with a liquid made up of:
2 cup water
1 Chicken bouillon cube
1 vegetable bouillon cube
1tsp powdered onion
1/2 tsp black pepper.
I make it up early with boiling water than just let it cool & steep before brushing on.

You caught that eh ? Steel discs from berry fields around me. They reflect the heat and spare the brick. The field get turned over twice a year and wear from breaking up the sod and or damage from rocks get field replacement and the operators forget t come back for the damaged disc.

I have also found them in the recycle bins at the John Deer shop in town. The fireplace was  built in 1950 and by reducing the volume I get a better breathing fire and more radiant heat. One this big old brick pile is heated it keep the room warm most of the night.

For the first twenty two years it was our only heat in the house. I have gone through a half cord of Oak in the last ten days.

In a normal year I would be packing to head south til March but not this year.

MJ, how much is a cord of oak?
Here we measure in "Stair" which is basically 1 cubic metre.
We cut our firewood in a local forest that is managed, so we cut 1 metre lengths and stack them 1 metre high. The length of the pile is measured to calculate the price per cubic metre.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Its a volume rather than a weight & can be loosely describes as "it fills the truck bed"!

128 cubic feet or 4'X4'X8'.  Mine was 1 1/2 trailer loads for $300 from another Veteran.
