I thought (maybe incorrectly) that "Sentimental Journey" was origianally a B - 25..not a B-17

Not certain and I may be mis-remembering stuff but, I've been going out to Falcon Field since I was able to drive"1984" and, I have always remembered her as Sentimental Journey.

Can you imagine climbing into a bomber knowing 25% of the flight won't be coming home from the mission. Two or three times a week, for months on end. Where do we find such men?
Just afraid to come out and play in the daytime. ;-) Now, the B-29 could fly 60% further(!), 71 mph faster, 7,300 ft higher and carry more . . . Everyone points out the 22,000 lb Grand Slam vs. the "standard" 20,000 lb B-29 load out - but a B-29 carried the 43,600 lb T12 Cloudmaker Bomb (1944 prototype) as a test before the B-36. It could also carry the T-14 22,000 lb US version of the Grand Slam. Lancaster was a great bomber. But the B-29, in service just a year later, was a long way ahead in all performance measures. Credit to the aircrews of both bombers. Remember that the most "successful" fighter of WWII was the Brewster Buffalo (really). In the Finnish air service it was "sporterized" as the B-239 and had a 14:1 kill ratio. Not surpassed until the US F-14. One squadron had a 26:1 ratio and a single airframe was credited with 42-1/2 kills and is thought to be the highest in WWII of any one airframe. Sometimes it's the indian and not the arrow. Tactics, determination and making do win wars.

definite credit to all aircrews , nothing was as easy as it is now ,
my avitar/moniker is a B-29 and ive held back on jumping in at this point but a ride on FI FI would be a dream come true , love to sit in the left waste blister as my father did , but then if i never do - so be it , there was a place for all of these and the landcasters and 17s had their job , they helped bring us to VE but just as mitchel had to stretch his 24s beyond their reach , only the 29s could reach japan in those days with a full payload and get back , ill be thinking on that again in august as i celebrate the VJ end of the war ,
