I went to the range this morning and tested a new load for the .3105" 200grn FMJ rebated BT. Cases trimmed to 2.215", primed with GM215M primers, 40.0grn charge of IMR3031, bullets seated to a depth of .462 with an AOL of 3.050".
I used my No4Mk1* LB as the test mule. After the initial sighting in was done and the barrel warmed and fouled, I started the test. The 100 yard grouping pictured was my best with the included called flyer. Acceptable regardless. I tried 200 yards and was still satisfied with the results. Not thrilled but none the less, satisfied. It should be noted that the 10 ring is 4"×6". The range master would not score the head shot and would only count the five in X and ten ring. With the increased charge,it was observed that the bullets did not develop a death spin and keyhole the targets. I had fun running the tests but do not care to test any further. With the .312 174grn HPBT the advantages over the 200grn FMJBT are very noticeable and as a result I believe the Lapua D166 bullets should be left to the rifle it was designed for.

I agree you wrang them out & are making the right decision.

Maybe not a bullet to continue with in the .303 Goosic, but still very interesting, that a bullet of this diameter performs so well in a barrel with grooves likely in the .314" range.
I know the Hornady rounds at .3105" perform V well in some new .303 barrels, and wonder (off topic wondering!) why we generally use .310-.312 bullets in the Finn Mosin Nagants, where the bores are often about .3095". This is just a generalisation, as it's off topic, and not a thing to discuss here. (But I still wonder!)
