Apparently the Copper wire was there to prevent the stock splitting ! I wonder how widely issued these rifles were ,as one would think they were the fore runner of the M79. I can remember being trained in the use of a rifle launched Grenade in the SLR but training was as far as we ever went with them! the 203& M79 were our main stays .I have seen the Rocket type Grenade the Aus-steyr, is capible of Fireing & it resembles ,a small version of the RPG47.

From time to time U heard me speak of Dennis-they guy with all the vintage equipment. When I was in his house last year (a very rare occurance) there must have been a DOZEN or more grenade launchers made from Lee Enfields.(In various conditions/vintages/manufacture) He explained to me that they would take worn out/rusty etc rifles & convert them.Given the # he had there-I had no reason to doubt him

I also trained on the slr grenade launcher....nasty recoil. We were trained to shoot it from the hip but away from the body, just point it at the angle you think you need to and let it go....bang!! Nowhere near as effective M203, now they were fun......

Never saw any training films for those!
Sounds nasty for close in work though. Wink
