Sapper740, a buddy has an accumulation of barreled actions collected over many years. He's using them up to restore sported rifles.

More important question: where are you finding barrels for it?

Canuck, can’t quite follow what you said. Is the barrel “under clocked”, I.e stops short of the front sight being vertical? Also, results in excess headspace such that a longer bolt head can’t correct it? If so, you may need to get some of the barrel shoulder skimmed off in a lathe.

UPDATE: The chopped barrel was finally able to be removed. There had to be a relief cut made to take the stresses out of the barrel/action connection. Once removed, a black 'goo' shall we call it was found and could have had a part in the great difficulty removing the barrel. Now, after trying to install 11 different, full length barrels, has become a nightmare. None of the 11 barrels would 'clock' properly, in fact, not even close to threading in far enough. It seems that these early 1941 barrels have shorter screw thread lengths. My buddy has one more barrel to try then we are almost out of options. We figure we may have to have a barrel shortened at the screw threads to make it fit. Has anyone on this site run into this problem?

Would you install a new barrel to alleviate the "chopped" one?
