I finally got the B-Square attached to the rifle.
To do it I had to ream one of the rear mount hole to allign with the reciever.
Then I had to file the "leg" that extends down to mount to the ejectoer screw.
OK so the mount is fitted to the action.
I mounted the scope with the supplied rings.
It's so far off zero that you can't bore sight because the object seen thru the bore (at about 80yds) is so far off center (high & right) that it is not even in the field of view of the scope at anything over 5 power!
 
I tried different rings, just in case.
Thats when the scope rail BENT DOWNWARDS just at the first cut for the cross bolts in front of the "U" shaped section. The metal is so soft & so thin at this point it is weak, very weak.
 
I'm going to order the Fultons of Bisley one, as that looks like the best combination of quality & rail length to allow my scope to fit.

Schmidlin: if you don't have a scope with a long back end, or eye relief problems I'd go with that one too. Unfortunately it won't work for me.

o i was talking about the scope mount.


maybe i will just get one of those ATI mounts...they seem easy enough to handle.

The "L" flip sight, the B-Square mount, or the burris scope?
 
If you get a B-Square mount I have both the long bolt for the rear sight axis pin & a spare for the ejector.
 
You'll have to do some fitting to both.
The replacment ejector screw will have to be custom-shortened to fit properly & the axis pin will need to be reduced in diameter by 0.005".
Both are really easy to do.

Still no reply from B-SquareCensored Surprising as they used to be a good company, years ago when I used them last.
 
However I did find some cheeze head 3BA bolts, so the project is going to continue regardless.
 
I removed the rear sight, kept the sight, pivot pin, and ejector screw so I can swap back to "original" quickly.
 
The pivot pin was replaced with a 4mm metric bolt, but with the diameter reduced very slightly for a snug (read tight) fit in the original holes. I also found an "L" flip site, so I still have the advantage of back up iron sights.
 
Not strictly "Issue" but I put a nice Burriss fullfield 2 3~9 X 40 matte finish scope on the setup. I think this rifle is deserving of better than irons & my old eyes can do with it.
 
Now all I have to do is wait till the snow & ice melts enough to let me make it to the range & go from firing line to targets without a sled & huskies.Ermm

I pulled the ejector screw & tried to match up the threads, just to check & the pitch is definately not the same. I've e-mailed B-Square mentioning this (& the missing parts I discovered too) We'll see what the manufacturer says.

Yes, British cars used them as well as older electrical gear so any old British or Australian electrical stuff used them although I think they would mostly be brass. Electrical gear is changing or has changed to metric now.

I did a little more checking on the mount & discovered several other "issues" as well.
 
The holes for the rear sight pin mounting are off of center, front to back.
The width between the "ears" where they attach round the outside of the existing rear sight pivot on the reciever are a good bit too wide.
 
All in all I think this is a case of there's more shimming swapping & so on than I want to get involved in.
 
For any of the other US members I did find a source for BA bolts.
MG car collectorsWacko have them as this was used on a lot of MG cars.

8x36 is a UNF size which as you see are different to BA.
You may fit the bolt to the hole but as I said before you run the risk of damaging the threads.
Aside from that, It would probably loosen over time unless you use a thread locking compound.
Look around and find the right screw, I am sure you will feel much better knowing that you have not damaged any threads.
One of the golden rules in Gunsmithing, Never force anything.

So what the vendor is selling me is not the rigght part! Interesting.

3BA is .1610 Diameter, 38 TPI with a pitch of .0287

8x36 is .164 Diameter, 36 TPI and .278 pitch
 
As you can see, 8x36 is slightly larger Dia and has 2 less threads per inch.
I am not sure that you will get it to fit the Ejector screw hole, I have my doubts and if you force it you may well ruin the threads in the action.
What length screw do you want? If you are unable to source it in the US, I will enquire around this part of the world. I am not sure what it would cost but postage would probably be the expensive bit.
Another alternative would be to get a machinist to make you a couple, then you will have a spare.
If you choose to go that way and if you want details of the thread I will happily oblige with all info.

I got a B-Square do-drill mount for the #4 Mk2 Faz today.
(More on that in a seperate post)
In with it is a couple of replacment screws for the ejector.
The size is listed as 8-36.
 
I just thought I'd share this little bit of info, as the only other reference I've seen tot his screw size is a "#3" which is darn near impossible to find in the U.S. using it's British naming convention.Wink
