Hey All, I'm new, first post.
I got my hands on the SAR version of the "C19" that's the designation for the new rifle.
It's a nice rifle, chambered in 308 win, bolt action and 10 round detachable magazine. the stock is removable to shorten the overall length for stowing or parachuting. It has an awesome muzzle-break that deduces recoil too. As evident by the Blaze Orange it's for SAR. Take a look at the photo with the pen, it is pointing to a small tab under the safety that you "booger with" to be able to cycle the bolt with the safety on. Imagine doing that with gloves.

We can only hope.  It will take a Minister to make that kind of decision I am sure.

As I mentioned a while back, I tried to enlist in the Canadian Reserves. I tried 20 years ago, but my work would not allow the eight weeks off for basic training. Now retired, I felt I had something to offer and the time to do it. I'm deemed to old as they said I would need to finish a three year commitment before I turned 60. Oh well.

No to both.  I still have some old copies of "Sentinel" kicking around though.  I guess I am not the nostalgic type in that respect.  After 41 years of Military/Public Service I suppose I had my fill.  I still occasionally run into old comrades and people I worked/served with or served together on various federal committees over the years.  Most like me are retired.  I do read a lot of military history primarily about the two world wars.    Military technology has always interested me too.

Perhaps and I would be all for it as I have worked with the Rangers before both on the Island and in Labrador.  It can be done but the rules have specific requirements to be met with respect to the write-off and disposal of federal property.  Also, if I recall correctly, Rangers are paid a daily allowance when using their snowmobiles or sleds during a patrol or other callout as well as being paid a daily wage.  Having said that they are always the first to volunteer for community SAR and other emergencies. I suspect that some of those rifles were in the local patrols long before many of the people currently using them were born.  If you can reference something that says they will stay there I would be most grateful to read same.  It would make me very happy.

The Brownings are still general issue.  They will be several years before they are fully replaced as a replacement hasn't been chosen.  Those being destroyed are frames and slides deemed beyond servicing.  They are buying Sigs as a stop gap with both the P225 and P226 in inventory.  My friend's son was in Special Operations Command and used a H&K USP.

The Rangers rifles are National Defence property and it would require a special administrative order to give them to individual Rangers.  As of January this year no decision had been made with respect to their disposal.  Once they are declared surplus their disposal is handled by GCSurplus, a branch of Public Services and Procurement Canada.  I am not sure but perhaps ITAR may prevent any sales outside of Canada.   Don't be surprised if they are sold as one lot including all spares.

I had read the Rangers would be allowed to keep their service Enfields. The rest of the inventory (parts, etc) would be available to the public. I suspect if this happens before we vote the Conservatives in in '19, the Liberals will destroy the remaining history.

I'm hoping then that,if they do sell out of the country, they might sell to someone that lives in another country? Perhaps to someone living in Arizona.
