I honestly do not have a clue who made this one. "The Spirit of the Pike" indicates that Baird was the only manufacturer that pinned their spike to the socket body but this one has a roll pin? There is a stamp on the face that I think reads N501 but I cannot find anyone with that dispersal code.  The other two oddities are that the socket is off center as well as the spike. The VNS and TRM2 stamps are correct according to "The Spirit of the Pike."
Any help decoding this bayonet will be greatly appreciated. The tip of the spike has all four sides ground to a point and I have yet to find another example...

You have a Prince-Smith & Stells Ltd, of Keighley manufactured bayonet as marked with a N56 in a circle on the socket above the spike, one of over 1 million manufactured by them.

The socket was subcontracted from Viners (VNS) who themselves received the rough casting for the socket from Tinsley Rolling Mills Co. Ltd of Sheffield (TRM) with this example being from their 2nd contract.

Someone has decided to remove the factory pin holding the spike on the socket resulting in the substitution you see now.

You are correct Lance. I started to look closer at the one definitive example I have of a P.S.&S. N56 stamped No4 MkII* and can make out the outline of the pin. Thank you...
