Well. My winter projest was to take a No4 Sporter I purchased cheap (and couldn't hit a barn door unless the bore was fouled) and Bob 4" off the barrel, crown ,reinstall the front sites (for appearance only), Addley scope mount and mount an old 4x Weaver I had kicking around. Then cammo. Done! I must say, its a pretty sexy unorthadox Enfield! Field test is Sunday. If it shoots 3" MOA, I'll be really happy, and have found an inexpensive "Bush Buster"!

I built something similar many years ago but back then the Addley mount was not a reality so I used a d/t'd receiver. Ended up gifting that rifle to my cousin's son and he says he still uses it! I don't know if he hunts with it but....it still chucks lead down the pipe.

I couldn't wait to shot the cammo'ed winter project. I just bore sited it at home and after a few Kentucky windage adjustment shots to dial in the old 4x Weaver, it produced a 4 shot group @ 100 yds of 1.93", three of those at 1.11". Very happy. Looks like bobbing the barrel 4" and recrowning turned a parts rifle into a decent deer hunter! Hopefully buddy comes over this weekend to drink my beer and take a few pics!

Very good results Honky!
What ammo were you using to try it out??

I have one to work on as well;
It was Given to me by someone in insurance.  (was stolen, and found eventually, been lying somewhere wet, and bore had pits deeper than the grooves at muzzle).  It didn't shoot Too badly with the regular peep sight, (Long Branch sportered No 4 Mk 1 *)  Maybe 4-5" at 100, so I counter-bored past most of the pits, and need to try it again.
I don't like barrels too short, and after using a 42" barrelled flintlock for decades, not even a Long Lee feels long to me!  LOL.

I was using 180 gr ProHunters, 39 grs H4895 in new PPU brass. Winchester primers. 4x old Weaver on Addley mount. All my Enfields seem to like this load combo. Again, hopefully my buddy can take some pics tomorrow, although I'm a little afraid of the reactions as it is a little "outside the box".

Honks,

Naaa, if it's a No 4, it'll still be good!

I once saw a Blue painted No 1 Mk 3, and it was still good, LOL!  (see above, but I wouldn't want it!
For others, I've cut them short as well, but much prefer a barrel of 24" or more....Much less racket when you pull the trigger!

Pukka, I was surprised at the "jump" of the rifle! Not quite No5'ish, but more than a 25" barrel!

I went to the range today with buddy. I had already sighted in my "winter"project rifle and confirmed accuracy. It was 34f, raining and a headwind of 16 mph. It repeated it's sub 2" MOA. I've asked Shamu to post some pics of this project. Remember, it's cammo'ed, but I feel it made a parts rifle into a deer hunter. Feel free to comment on the looks. Thank you.

That looks like a serious bit of hunting kit. I like it!
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!
