This weekend my Club was open to the general public. Week do this for two weekends right before deer season. I Pretty much spent the weekend at the range, There was one notable fellow who I helped. He came to the range with a poorly sporterised Chilean 1912 Mauser with the clicks for elevation stripped out on the scope and get this three rounds of surplus FMJ ammo! We did talk him into buying a box of hunting ammo and (by some wierd miracle) I got his scope more or less zeroed for 100 yards. |

Being in the PRK, I don't hunt anymore, but love deer season. The once a year guys show up with Winchesters and Brownings with huge scopes, and when we do the 100 yd walk my really sad looking Turk Mauser has better groups. Tkey keep glancing sideways and matter a lot!

this past month and a half have been the 'deer hunter sight in' here - i work the counter now used to work the range as RO , its a zoo here , im glad i do not hunt deer , if i did i would be scared to death by those i know are armed and loaded and in a deer stand near me ,
as a CRSO i now train the RSOs its a chore that i dont relish when i think of all they will encounter at the range these 'sight-in' days ,
i think in the big picture - if the government ever decides to take our guns they best really think twice , it wont be easy and it wont be fun , it will be bloody and very bad for those that dont own guns or condone shooting , i feel bad for the national guard that get sent out to take them , they have absolutely no idea what they are facing these days , back to the big picture - its best to leave americans alone , tell the UN and all your euro contries to pi$$ off , bad chits comming , we are not the minnesota nice the tourist brochures portray us as , we are redneck hillbillys and we love our guns , based on the anual deer harvest .......yup we are good shots as well , and im not braggin - just stating the facts , i know every other state represented here can say the same ,
blue cities beware - you will starve and be outgunned , we will eat venicin and shoot anyone that ventures outstate

We had a guy show up and ask for the gunsmith to bore sight his scope. He did. The guy goes out into the field and the scope is shooting high to the right... so he grabs the elevation knob and cranks it down until it just stops moving. So he comes back, tells me all this, and says he doesn't want the smith touching his gun. So out into the parking lot I go. It was tough getting that thing back to zero. The scope was moving, but it was not happy about it. And the young man wasn't happy that I didn't use the laser the smith used. 1. It obviously didn't work when the smith did it and 2. because of scaring on my right eye (from 5 years of customers shining lasers in my eye from a grip display before I could stop them) I don't see the red lasers real good anymore, so I don't use them. I bore sight by removing the bolt and looking down the barrel. He swore there was no possible way this could work. I explained I did it on my match rifle and it's dead on. He argued, but took it.
He hasn't come back, so it must have worked. :) |

So far this hunting season, & its just started.
2 hunters chasing a deer across the backstop of a live fire range while it was in use. Guy walking between the apt buildings in a parking lot with a loaded crossbow. Guy "safely discharging" his smoke-pole into the creek on the playing field of the local middle school. ( the water was going to safely stop the bullet he thought!) Incoming fire at the same range, but on a different day. There must have been 25~30 shots so I have no idea what the person was shooting (at). |

Shamu, we were in Conn. a couple years back, and there were two hunters walking the center median of the freeway. It was grassy, but not much cover..

I,ve seen "road hunting" in upstate NY
What's road hunting? Walking the shoulder with a shottie waiting for Bambi so you can "Just shoot away from the blacktop!"
I think it's even legal in some counties. |

We have highway hunters here as well
With all the farmland backing the north Sask. river we get lots of deer and everyone from the city with there fancy trucks come out becouse we have a 15 day head start in our zone,
they just drive on the open fields along tree lines and get out to shoot,or they back into the bush and wait....Last year I had my wife posted at this sweet crossing I found and had some nice trail cam pic's and when these two trucks saw her ( have to wear blaze orange during rifle season)and they just kept driving by back and forth really pissed the wife off,but no law saying a guy cant go down the grid road.

Road Hunting is illegal here , But You still get idiots stopping and aiming their rifle out the window down the pipe lines and electrical right of ways .... makes you a little worried when they look right at you with there rifle !!! I know first hand ..I have a pipe line right of way across my property ...
Used to have problems with hunters hunting it also ... Now Louisiana has a new LAW !!! You have to own or lease the land your hunting ...and if you dont you better have permission to hunt the property your on !!! written permission !!! It stopped a lot of trespassing that was going on by big hunting clubs ...they would actually take your posted signs down and destroy your deer stand if your property was any place near the lease they hunted .... Had a tough time with the club that bordered my property to the east ...and since the club pres.and treasurer was My neighbor to the norths gran kids .. They would just stand on Her property and turn their Dogs loose and smile at Me ..When I said some thing they would reply that the dog does not know property lines !!! They also would run their deer dogs during still hunt to mess every ones hunt up before the Dog season would open ......... |
