Large Game?

What sort of large game is the .303 effective against?

In other words what game could be stopped with a .303 and what sort of game would you need a larger caliber?

Chach - there is NOTHING -NOTHING! on this continent that the .303 won't do a stroke of bisness on.In other words - its an "all purpose" firearm.& before ur friends start they're tongues to wagging....what U hit will STAY hit!! Don't believe all that crapola that ya need a 30.06.Moose, Caribou, Elk, Deer, Grizz, it don't matter.
I understand they used them on Elephants in Africa..Dave knows more on that subject.

Hey Chach, my deer i took this past season was with a .303  No1 MK III  realy think that the round is a bit to much for white tail deer . even though she droped within 40 yrds from the spot i shot her in . Not realy that much messed up meat either . Maybe if she would of been 200 to 300 yrds out it might have been a mesier kill but she was only about 100 yrds at the most from me . realy a fairly close shot . should of brought my Daughters .410 shot gun for that easy shot!   Oh by the way it was a lung shot and in the very spot i aimed.  and my worker Donie at work realy thanked me for the heart. the man will eat just about any thing....

WDM Bell probarly one of the Greatest Elephant hunters of all time (he accounted for more than a 1000 Elephants ) Was a Great avdercate of the 8mm (.318 )  the 7x57 Mauser & the 6.5 mm for hunting Elephants ! He always carried a .303 though in the Hope of catching a large herd to utrlize the 10 shot Magizine capasity ! He also used a Martini .303 carrying spare ronds between the fingers of his right hand & could fire it as fast as a Magizine rifle !
    In my own humble experiance I accounted for several thousand Water Buff with the .303 ! Durring my Days as a Pet food shooter ! I always went for neck or Spine shots at a range of 10feet to 150 yrds ! The only time I ever found problems was when I failed to place my shots! I've yet to meet a camel that complained about being hit with a 303 ! If there was a Problem it was through me ! Red Deer (Sambar) which are about the size of your Elk drop cleanly with a well placed shot !
      As every body has pointed out ! Bullet placement counts ! I would limit the effective range on any large game to 200yrds ! Yes I Know you hear of blokes hitting things at 400-600yrds ! Please note they hit things at that range .Not Kill straight away ! Drop where they stand !

I had snake (dunno what genus) back when we were making the North & South mini series.Guys from the bayou in LA caught it & cooked it on a flat rock in the fire & coals.I dunno if it was they're home-made moonshine, or they're culinary prowess...but man! That was a night to remember.Tasted great(Both the 'shine & the snake!

I have quite an assortment of large critters on my land that will stomp, chomp, claw and gore you. I often carry a No4 Mk2 while I'm out checking on the property. Sad thing is, the most dangerous critter of all you can hardly see. It's the deer tick, and the woods are crawling with them. They suck your blood and make you sick with some really nasty diseases, such as Lyme disease.
