Well the Middle East seems to be hotting up!
It's good to see that finally, someone is doing something about the toxic regime in Iran. Although surprising that it's taken so long. They have cut the head off the snake, but the body is still wriggling! I was surprised to see the Iranians hitting all of the neighbours. That's a sign of panic, to try and hurt all those you hate before you get wiped out. One thing is certain, the region will be better off without the medieval religious leaders, financing terrorism and destabilizing. They've been shouting death to America and Israel since 1979, so about time it stopped, and give the chance for real peace in the regional! I was talking to a friend in Abu Dhabi, they had a few drone strikes. Also in Dubai. Kuwait accidentally shot down some F15's, friendly fire !

Yes, indeed. Let’s hope some good will come of this, particularly in regards to the form of government that replaces the last one. And we all know what path they were on, it was a “now or never” type move.

Zed: "Chance for real peace in the region" ? Methinks you are somewhat overly optimistic on that. After centuries of tribal mentality & fanaticism - its highly doubtful a lasting peace could ever be had there, IMHO
Isn't this the area where ARMAGEDDON is supposed to occur? |

I think the likelihood of a "peaceful path forward" isn't in the cards. There are a lot of moving parts. A protracted upheaval in Iran's ability to sneak crude oil to China is likely to drive additional mischief. Until recently, China has been almost entirely reliant on highly discounted "sanctioned oil" from Russia, Venezuela, and Iran. We have effectively taken two of those sources off the menu for them. Keep in mind that Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor was partially driven by Japan being starved of natural resources....primarily oil....due to US embargoes. With all that said, I think it's better to deal with them now than wait until they are nuclear armed and have ICBM's. Best,

that was my thoughts as well , there have been multiple occasions since 1979 when this should have happened but the presidents of the time were either incapable of planning well or too nervous to act , in a couple recent cases they all but encouraged the regiemes ambitions as well as funded it based on wanting to believe they were not lying but they have were and still would be today if they were alive to do so - their ambasador did on TV today -he was spouting the same BS
because they are a theocracy we have to think in terms of what they teach , they consider us infidels and fair game to lie to , they would never allow their people a say in anything and they enforce archaic tules on their population that oppress them

I think Hoadie is correct! Hoping for real peace is probably delusional on my part.
But if they stop exporting terrorism and allow democratic rule, it will be a worthwhile change!

its quite possible that cutting off funding to the proxies will make them obsolete - dry them up on the vine so to speak , im not giving up hope , i really want the iranian people to have freedom and and a voice in their government , i want the free of the oppressions of the mullahs laws that we all know oppress them , they need to be free to start over

During my time as a member of U.N.D.O.F. (United Nations Disengagement Observer Force) on the Golan Heights in 1998 and 1999 we experienced various threat levels from very low to attacks imminent. That's the way it was and the way it will always be in the Middle East: simmering tensions that will erupt in violence occasionally. I don't foresee another land war since Israel's neighbors are tired of getting humiliated on the battlefield and have come to grips with the reality of the Jewish nation. It ain't going away. Some radicalized nutjobs will commit lone wolf attacks but no national army of any country will attack Israel on Israeli soil again in my humble opinion.
Rocket and drone attacks are, of course another thing and will continue sporadically for probably forever. All Israel and its allies can do is reduce the ability of radical Muslims to do harm to Israel as threats arise. As long as Muslims hate Jews more than they love their children violence will continue.

Imagine what pressure could be brought to bear if China stopped buying their oil. There is about as much chance of that happening as Iran becoming a democracy. That’s not to say we should just give up trying to stop them from building a nuke arsenal. I think this was really our best and last chance of trying to change their course. If it doesn’t, and they replace the nut case Khamenei with someone as bad (or worse!) this won’t end well.

China is purely out to satisfy their need for cheap oil. They'll buy from whoever. The only way to stop that flow of oil is to disrupt the transport of same at the source. It doesn't appear that anyone is targeting Iran's petroleum production or export infrastructure. I suspect that's probably because it would ensure a failed state would follow which is likely an even worse outcome for everyone. |

EPIC FURY , we need to clear a path for the iranian people to have a reasonable government that pays attention to the needs of their people first and foremost and is not the sponsor of the terrorism in the world ,
i think the path is opening up , we need to clear enough of the way without going too far - my take is the clerics need to go and the people need to be the government

And people wonder why we tenaciously hang on to our 2nd Amendment. I place the U.S. Constitution and all its amendments right up there with the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta established the principle that no one is above the law and guarantees certain rights and liberties for citizens. The 2nd Amendment gave teeth to the Great Charter.

100%. It's no accident that as countries descend into authoritarian regimes, one of the first things the government goes after are privately held firearms. Then you wind up in a scenario where only the government and criminals have a means to defend themselves and to relieve you of your liberty, property and potentially your life. Best, |
