Ok well thats not true, I'm planning a feral hog hunt with a friend in the next months. I'm planning on taking my enfield, from what i've read feral pigs are pretty tough little buggers, anyone have a preferred load for the .303? I was thinking of Hornady 150grn sp.

I'd use 180 grain Remington Corelokt ammunition if I were hunting feral hogs.Some of those pigs have tough skin and tough personalities. It all depends on what you are used to using already and which animals you have hunted and dispatched. Is your rifle a sporterized rifle or full length military rifle? Being from Florida, are you taking a side arm as well on your hunt? I have read that the Glock 20 10mm is a preferred sidearm for hunting ferals.

i was advised by a good friend in texas that the 308 was the choice , but its pretty close to the 303 in my mind , and the 3006 so im going to say its good to go

lets go with:
Outside of squirrels and air rifles my main targets have been paper.
it's a Supreme 41 (sporter) 
I know its pathetic but since it's my first "Hunt" and my buddy is an out of stater we'll be hunting with a guide on private land. 
308 is popular, as is 30-06, frankly with the controlled expansion line of "hog ammo" the 223 is very popular.
If I could afford a big bore sidearm I would.

I may end up with 180grain we'll see what my rifle likes best.

My PH Supreme 1945 Longbranch LOVES 180 grain. That rifle has been a real bone collector for me and it's previous owner for decades.

Ive only used my 7 Mag when I went on hunts with Doc. Doc used his 1903 sporter that his Uncle gave him. His Father used to hunt them with his .45 cal Muzzle loader and dropped them like nothing....
I also have an old Buddy from High School that is going on a Hog Hunt with his AR , in 5.56 mm so When I here back from from him I will let you know how he did !!!

most of my friends that currently hunt hogs have switched up from the 223 AR to the 308 AR , i think there is something to be said for that knockdown power

One thing to keep in mind is where the kill zone is on a hog.  Google it and you will be surprised how low their spinal column is coming out of their head and how small and far up front the heart lung area is.  There is a lot of good stuff online about that, but I would think any 303 round would take one out.  I have a friend, a little crazy, but he hunts them with a 22 mag.  If I am hunting something that will attack me and could kill me I want more than that.  He says he likes a challenge.

They have a gristle & muscle pad at the sternum too. It protects them when fighting other boar. You have to punch through that just to get to the boiler room.

I own a .222 remington that the previous owner said he used to shoot pigs in the ear for a one shot drop.

.303 in 150 grn will knock down ANYTHING on this continent.
I don't understand why people argue that point.Personally, I only step up to 180 grn when I'm hunting moose.
The hitting power of .303 is quite something. I have shot good sized bucks in the past, and actually flipped them backwards in the air in a summersault affect.
I cant see "using a hammer, to kill a fly". Its going to be just as dead.

In Arkansas you can legally hunt them with a .22 rf. You do need to shoot them in the ear with a .22 RF & they drop like a rock as long as your aim (& nerve) holds out!Pig

In NC people use 30-06, can not get any 303.
Always looking for military manuals, Dodge M37 items,books on Berlin Germany, old atlases ( before 1946) , military maps of Scotland. English and Canadian gun parts.

that's cuz 30.06 is considered "America's Caliber".
Un-patriotic to kill with anything else!
During the 2nd twirl at war, the commonwealth BEGGED the American gov't to use 303..standardized ammo would make for easy supply between allies. The N.I.H. mantra raised it's head again, so it never happened.Would have made a big difference..prob would've saved lives and shortened the war, as well.

Funny thing, one time I was talking guns with this ole boy at a pawn shop....He asked what I was using that season. I told him I was using my .308 He said that was to small not enough knock down...I should get me a 30-06 !!!!
Then he got pissed when I told him the .308 was developed to replace the 30-06 and has pretty much the same performance!! 
The .308 is on par with the 30-06, because when better powders were developed, and those powders could do the same thing that the powder used in the 30-06 but taking up less space. The .308 was born!!!

Some even get all bent out of shape when you tell them the .270 is only a necked down 30-06, and the .243 is a necked down .308 !!!!!

this reminds me that I need to make a case to hold all my laser bore sighters !!!!
