I just ordered one with my Sierra Matchkings. No4, original, vg condition, $40. CAD. I thought that was an ok price as I've seen them run around $60-70 around my neck of the woods.

Any spot with two trees is called "the woods." Three or more trees is called a forrest. Hoadie. It may come as a surprise but I was born in Pembroke, On the. Lived in Camp Petawawa. Army brat.

well HT...I suspect you were born at a very early age..ergo, you wouldn't remember what a real forest (like we have in Ontario) would look like.
Course, living on a baking sheet has it's advantages...Like, you can wave at yer kin in the next town...& they can see you and wave back! ...and the view of the mountains in Alberta must be kinda nice..& when yer kid "runs away from home" you can watch him go - for days & days!!

Back on topic...if these newly manufactured #4 magazines are the Chinese knock offs then they need tweaking to work properly. I ordered 20 such new magazines from a Canadian company and 16 out of 20 needed new platforms/springs and some grinding at the rear of the magazine so they could function properly. PITA! And NONE of them came with the auxiliary spring up front! I am most likely going to convert mine to 5 round magazines and sell them at gun shows, hopefully.

Got the new mags today. The parkerizing is pretty rough and will need some work to get the platform to slide freely. They do have the aux spring.
I’d say the originals are much better.

why does it seem to be so difficult to manufacture now - with better machines & tools - then before..when they made them by the tens of thousands with lesser quality machines?

Because now they are made for profit. Back then poor quality or performance could cost a man his life.

well, that may be HT...but the way they wasted tens of thousands of lives - needlesley - in the field of battle, makes me think that the higher ups didn't give a wet rat's ass if a man's life was in the balance or not.

In the old day's people would be properly trained to do a job. That job would be inspected by another properly trained person. They would generally take pride in their work; as it was all too easy to get fired. These day's a lot of people have little training and no idea about quality or pride in their work. It's a sad state of affair's. You would not believe some of the crap quality I see on very expensive new vehicles these days.

Years ago I made the decision to buy only used, issued magazines no matter the state of the cosmetics.

Aftermarket magazines are always a roll of the dice. Varying degrees of quality.
