I recently picked up some 215 grain Kling Kore Soft Points for my No5Mk1, I got some data from 303British.com.
Back in the early 80's I shot a big bull moose with a No5Mk1a couple of these big slugs. It was under 100 yds, I put two slugs into the moose, two double lung shots. The first was a kill shot, the second was to make sure he didn't run off. |

sounds like a deer killer here , we have a lot of brush in our deer hunting areas so carbines are the preferred item , most are using the trusty old 3030 in those areas and there are a lot of them coming to the range these days durringsight in - pre opener

I just gave away a couple of boxes of heavy bullets some 215 Gr SP & some 215 Gr FMJ Rebated BTs. I tried them but they really weren't doing anything for me. Maybe the new owner will find a home for them in the old Martini actions he likes

I shot these on paper today, 1.25 inches at 50 yds, through the factory battle sights. No chrony today, next trip. They should clock in around 2000 fps?? I wanted to make sure the loads were safe.

I also tried some 220 grain .308 diameter Hornady RN out of the No5, they shoot a bit lower on the target without tumbling. The 150, and 180 grain Speer shot good with the 150 grain bullets clocking in at just a hair under 2400 fps with the short barrel of the No5. I have room to add a couple grains to each load, but with it being accurate I don't feel the need to possibly change the accuracy.

Good decision IMO. The most accurate loads are frequently a little bellow max.

You will not have to gut it / field dress it.
All the innards will be going out the exit hole. |
