Just moved to Vermont.. Nice to be in a constitution state..
I have concealed carried for a few years back in SC and MN, but it feels sorta nice to be able to open carry when I feel like it. Still prefer to conceal just not to draw attention to myself. I still have not decided if carrying at work (company policy against employees having firearms on the premises) would be worth the battle since there are no state laws regarding it. I know they could fire me, but considering the state law I believe they would be in for a nasty legal battle. |

I have always told my Wife to sue if Im killed while using a company vehicle due to the policy regarding no fire arms in company vehicles or the job sight ....
When I was working at the ExxonMobil refinery and chemical plant in Baton Rouge they moved a trailer into the parking area with a guard to check your personal firearms into so they would be safe while you were at work!!! you had to apply to Exxon to get a card to show so you could check your firearm in when you got to work!!! if you left it in the vehicle and they did a search you would be fired !! |

my current job has policy prohibiting , i respect it and they are not hardnosed regarding any technicalities , im not concerned there ,
MN has a carry law - open or concealed , i choose to conceal in general as im not inclined to advertise to those that might wish to take it from me , when i work the gun club or range its often exposed just to be clear i am armed , and its not like im the only one there - everyone is pretty much ,

When I used to be in MN I remember some stories of a guy that open carried around Lake Nokomis and the calamity that ensued when a bunch of people called the cops claiming a man with a gun was on the loose.. Needless to say it was an ordeal for the guy and it was all in front of his daughter.. I believe it ended up in court over how the officers handled it. It is always nice to hear when the police do not know the law or decide not to follow it. All the more reason to not open carry, even though it may be legal or our right.

the guy that gives our CCW cpourse is a retired chief of police , a 3gun shooter , and a friend , he has been doing my renewals - generally has me RO instead of shoot as he knows i can shoot , we shot three gun together ,
thats how i met cops from all over and mpls swat cops , these outlaw three gun matches work for part of their training , i can assure you there are many who actually know the law fairly well , but as in every confrontation they must determine their moves based on what is presented in the moment , often a person - otherwise in the "right" - uses the wrong tone or chooses to be confrontational in some way , not a good move ....

I hate to hit an old topic but I haven't been here in a long time but A square 10 is exactly right. On top of that I constantly see people doing open carry who have no situational awareness just inviting someone to snatch their gun and wreak all sorts of havoc. Open carry tends to make gun owners look bad. I swear you can tell that most of them want to be the focus of attention and the visible firearm does that for them. In reality it makes them a target for anyone wanting to do harm, those carrying open will be the first to get dropped whereas a concealed firearm at least has the potential for an element of surprise and allowing the ccw person to get inside of a bad guys OODA loop and stop an attack. I tell every one in my CCW classes this in more depth and in fact document it in handouts so when the open carry guy loses his handgun and some innocent gets dusted with it I have a defense for the inevitable lawsuit that will be filed against me because I had the "gun donor" in a class.
