Ok so its ot completely standard, in fact its a No4 Mk1 action only but hey its still awesome.  Its a 45-70 built on one.  I took this Buff with it on the weekend dropped to the first shot and I put 2 more 'insurance' shots into him just to make sure he didn't want to get back up and kill me!

Carabou? Thats a Water Buffalo, yes it was my 1st and I used a Woodleigh 400gn PPSP on top of 49gn of AR2207 powder.  Exellent performance I shall be using them again!

Yep both Dad and Uncle are both ex New Zealand Army (Dad Artillary and Uncle Infantry).  I know Dad went to Hawaii with his uit once in the 80's and both have worked with the US at some point.

Very wise putting a couple insurance shots into him, how does water buff taste like anyways??
I really like the 45-70 and the Enfield, being made into one is the best use of both. Nice rifle, excellent post.

Try the African buffalo. Takes a lot to bring him down. Took a friend of mine 12 shots with a 375 to bring his down. All good chest shots, and they barely made a difference. They had to track him down in a reed bed, and was eventually taken down with a head shot whilst charging my friend. The PH used a 458 to eventually take the buffalo down.

Not a complete idiot. Still missing a few parts.

Obviously they were'nt all that good, and/or the bullets performed badly.  I am not an expert in buffalo hunting, having  a total of 1 Cape buffalo to my credit, yet I think the above is more the rare exception.
One rarely hears stories like this from real people.  I don't believe it is that common as gun writers like PH Capstick would like to have us believe.  Most give up the ghost pretty readily from the conversations I have had with others that have hunted buffalo, including PHs.
My PH stated in all his years of hunting buffalo (+25) he never faced a charge.

From what I understand the Asian buffalo can be just as nasty as his African counterpart, and deserves as much respect when hunting him.
